Discussion: Social Media Companies Say They Will Send Reps To Senate Hearing Next Week

These guys really make me miss the good old days of Compuserve and PeopleLink. AOL on a stretch. I never thought they might be a threat to the individual and the country.

Even fake news has been off-shored. We should slap heavy excise taxes on this horseshit and penalties for abuse.

At the rate of 1 million dollars per troll posting, we may actually come out ahead in this deal in the long run.

Dear Senate: It’s not the ads, it’s the bots. If you want to do anything substantial (and the ads are an okay play to start), you need to convince them to alert users when a bot posts on their page, comments, is the source of data and where that bot originates from, including it’s routing path to the facebook (for example) servers.

ETA: They’ll never get rid of bots, that fluffs their ad revenue, but they can at least be transparent about them.
