Prominent social conservatives are furious with President Barack Obama for signing an anti-discrimination order on Monday prohibiting federal contractors from discriminating against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees.

These guys are spouting nonsense. And they know they are. Wanting to frame this as an employersâ rights issue is their method for levering religion - one specific religion - into the mainstream dealings of the country.
I must point out that these people and evangelical organizations are already deeply embedded in the military, IRS, and government at all levels state and Federal.
The counter argument to their gambit is to frame the argument as a workersâ rights issue. Simply, in our capitalist society, one is required to work. Without working there is sure penury, and eventual starvation and death.
When one is required to work in order to live, then there is no choice, and therefore each American, regardless of race, creed, etc., must be treated equally in the eyes of the law. Each contributes.
For an employer to object to someoneâs living is absurd.

âTheir reasonable beliefsâ have nothing to do with it. This is about discrimination - an action - and the bigots are still free to believe what they want. Iâm immensely disappointed in Barack for a wide variety of reasons, but this is one he got totally right in my opinion.

So basically theyâre angry that the President wonât let them cop out to acknowledging their bigotry? They can do without government contracts then if their beliefs are that strong. Nothings forcing them to take government contracts, they can decline to accept them. Something tells me that they just donât want to acknowledge their hypocrisy.
