Its so weird that less than a year ago, we still had Obama as our president and were looking forward to a continuation of his policies in a Clinton administration. We still had hope for a better country and world. We had the assurance of healthcare and were’t living under the siege of a mad man lighting a match to the world. The choice of these artists is symbolic of that optimistic vision that is slipping away and in a way, it makes these anticipated works of art already bittersweet.
You could fit everything I know about art into Trump’s tiny hands, but I’m digging WIley’s stuff. The others are ok, but Wiley’s speak to me more.
I’ve never been so excited to see presidential portraits unveiled, but I will make sure the release date for these are on my calendar.

Wiley’s work is monumental. Hyper-surreal. He actually has a factory in China where he employs a small army of artists to help detail the ornate backgrounds. You really cannot believe the detail when you see it in person. Its just exquisite.
Or native Kenyan attire.

It was another Camelot while that family was in the White House. A new aristocracy of intellect and achievement and style and possibility. I have to believe the America that made that possible still exists.

I’m not familiar with her work. From what I see here, her work is elegant and much more understated than Wiley but she seems like the perfect artist to paint Michelle.
Maybe a suggestion for the artist - produce TWO versions of the portrait. One original and one copy. Then send the copy to the White House. That way when Trump vandalizes it in a rage two days before he’s impeached and removed from office you’ll be able to send the pristine original to take its place.
I was going to say a stick figure drawing, but I wonder if there will even be a portrait done of him. I sincerely hope not.

I think it does. I think many kinds will always exist in America, its part of what makes the country what it is. We just can’t forget about the deplorables and make sure we sanitize the rock bottoms in our society. Don’t feed the trolls, I’d be looking at the Republican party, if they hadn’t already been taken over by trolls.
