According to the Tampa Bay Times, Doug Hughes planned on flying his gyrocopter to the U.S. Capitol to deliver letters to Congress, urging members to act on campaign finance reform.

What would Ben Franklin do?

So, he was trying to prove that even absolute blithering idiots who don’t realize that federal sentencing guidelines have mandatory minimums are for campaign finance reform?

ET phone home.

He probably should’ve done more research.

Yep. Be accused of stealing some smokes or run away from a traffic stop, obviously you’re a deadly threat. Landing a small aircraft on the white house lawn without authorization, get arrested, move on, nothing to see.

Wow. Bill O’Reilly will do ANYTHING to get an interview.

From the BBC:

Representative Michael McCaul, chairman of the House homeland security committee, said that had he made it much closer to the Capitol, officials were prepared to shoot him down.

It’s so refreshing when the craziness out of Florida doesn’t involve a gun or someone getting killed!

Has anyone started a funding campaign to help this guy pay his legal bills? If America can spare $800,000 for a pizzeria that won’t cater gay weddings, surely we can find a bit of cash for a 61-year-old mailman who wants to improve our campaign finance laws.

Nobody’s perfect!

Good point. How do we get one started!

At least this guy’s smart enough to know he’s flying a gyrocopter and not a helicopter.
