Discussion: Short-Term Spending Bill Defunding Planned Parenthood Blocked In Senate

Some voted against it because it didn’t go far enough (Paul, Cotton), some voted against it because they’re scared for their political lives (Ayotte, Kirk).

This is nothing! A mere distraction! If only House Republicans believe hard enough, they can bring Obama to his knees! Democrats will surely get the blame for a shutdown, this time!

Just moved to Florida but lived in KY for decades. Rand might be in trouble, not just for his Presidential run but also his Senate seat. Obama’s Medicare expansion is working well in KY. Also, KY is a very poor State and lots of people depend on Planned Parenthood. KY is noted for bluegrass and the State might be turning light blue.

They should just move the start of the fiscal year from Oct. 1 to Jan. 1. Oh, wait, that’s what Congress did in 1974, the last time they realized they could never get the appropriations done on time.

Oh, for those heady days of 1976! It was a real thriller for those of us trying to do computer modeling of historical data. What do you do with a year that has five quarters?

What larger funding deal? The House committees haven’t done their jobs. NO appropriations have passed out of committee. Mainly because they can’t even pass bills they all AGREE on. This whole PP thing is because they have NOTHING for a budget and it’s much easier to shut the government down on some pretend cause than to actually do their jobs.
To say that the whole teabaglicon delegation is a total waste of space is to give them too much credit. One can say oh its only 20 or 30 RWNJs but if that’s the case then where the hell are the rest of them? So except for those few wack jobs the rest of them especially the leaders boner and turtle are too spineless to stand to stand up to the wack jobs. Even out of power Speaker Pelosi is STILL 10X more effective as a leader than boner. No wonder he drinks.

The GOP war on women continues…

Expanding Medicaid coverage won’t impact PP negatively and certainly wouldn’t replace it. There have to be some facilities in place for people to get the care that Medicaid covers, whether those facilities are PP or other. And hospitals and clinics are failing in some of the states without exanded Medicaid coverage, leaving women especially with fewer and fewer sources of care. It’s an appallingly vicious circle.

And I’m sure some Democrats voted against it for reasons other than concern for women’s health coverage or even for economic rationality. I don’t even care ATM, I’m simply enjoying the results.
