Well, it should be plainly obvious, to anyone paying attention, that every person in every profession in every city and burg throughout the entire United States now needs to create a personal active shooter plan to follow in the ever more likely occurrence that a shooting will manifest either within or adjacent to one’s professional or private life. It’s both sad and terrifying that we have come to this wretched state in America.
Sadly, 528liberal, it’s equally important that parents make sure their own minor children, regardless of age, understand what to do in such emergencies. As the parent of a high schooler, soon to be college student, it’s scary as shit how often this stuff happens in schools and on campuses. Sandy Hook was an example that no child is too young to be at risk…

Absolutely! I used to regard the bullet resistant kiddie backpacks and such with mild contempt…but now, I think that concerned parents should do whatever they feel is necessary to help protect their family in the event of a shooting.
Of course, we know that the answer to this kind of tragedy is to allow more guns. Because even more folk having guns would have obviously avoided this tragedy.

My wife is currently in lockdown in her laboratory a couple of buildings removed from the shooting site at UCLA. My sister also experienced a lockdown when she was teaching a class at Santa Monica city College and several people were shot . Life in America is sick. The guns are sick. The ideology is sick.

Thank you. I haven’t heard anything about an arrest yet. I hear lots of sirens and helicopters from my home about 5 miles from the UCLA campus.
I originally felt the same way about Code Red drills. Reminded me of foolishly hiding under a kid-desk to hide from a nuclear bomb. Turns out, though, that it might actually be life-saving.
p.s., kiddo graduates hs tomorrow. Then heads to UC Santa Barbara. Where they still have memorials for the Elliot Rodger victims. This insanity makes me weep for our kids’ future.
