Discussion for article #230832
Meh, I’m sure Rand Paul will be able to explain why this should be blamed on taxes.
What’s the big deal? This is the post-racial America usage of the N-word, so no harm.
The Internet–it’s like a second asshole to racists.
I don’t know which is scarier: the overt racism, or the overt ignorance about the accessibility of text messages.
Where’s your messiah now, Deputy Flanders?
And wingnuts have the nerve to complain about teacher tenure. What about police tenure? Fire the pricks. Paid leave my ass. One of them was from Internal Affairs for heaven’s sake, in charge of investigating his fellow cops for unethical and illegal behavior by those in the police force. Seriously, it looks like anyone become a cop these days.
So what now? They have a vacation for a couple weeks, say they aren’t racist any more and go back to work? For sure they will “Serve and Protect” everyone equally. Just like Cleveland, Ferguson and NY. What a country. There are great policemen out there and facist asshole like these cover all of them with shit. Too bad there is a “Blue Code” that allows this shit to go on and certainly there are those that know and knew how these lowlifes were/are like.
There are areas of Ohio and Kentucky which will give the Deep South a run for the money.
The good news is that, while racism by white racists has always been here, IS HERE and will always be here, the United States has made vast strides in the area of race relations. Unfortunately, because of Barack Obama’s Kenyan father (making him black, in the United States), the Republican opposition has successfully been able to channel the resentment of racists into a viable opposition (see Congressional Elections 2010, 2014). If Barack Obama had John Edwards’ “race”, the Confederates would have been far less useful to the Republicans.
But back to the good news.
The next President will not be black (sorry, Ben Carson). There is little traction the Confederacy will be able to use on any white President. The symbolism simply is not there. Don’t get me wrong…The Confederates will not go away. They never have. It’s just that their usefulness as a hammer to whip sentiment up will be abated. So what if a racist Bagger says the word N****r.
Which black in the public eye, whom EVERYBODY HAS ON HIS/HER MIND (LIKE THE PRESIDENT), would this country bumpkin be trying to channel resentment toward?
Russell Wilson? Too new on the scene
Charles Barkley? He might throw you out of a window
Michael Jordan? Do people REALLY think about baskelball 24/7?
Condi Rice? She’s with the Rednecks
Colin Powell? Some of those country boys respect the military
Then you get down to black elected representatives.
Eighty percent of Americans don’t even know what Congress does.
Advancing the dialogue.
Not vacation–a period of quite reflection and prayer with their families, after which these police officers, who are, if we think about it, the real victims here and maybe should be promoted.
A cop covering for a bad cop is also a bad cop. The, “it’s just a few bad apples, most cops are wonderful,” platitude doesn’t fly. A “Blue Code” means they’re all bad. (At least, if they’re all covering for the bad ones.)
Man , I could move from South Carolina to Ohio without suffering much of a cultural shock.
Yeah, really - why the “investigation?” Why not fire immediately?
OF COURSE this is going to continue, indefinitely. The endemic racism in police officers all over the country isn’t an issue of “retraining.” It’s an issue getting rid of (in some cases, wholesale) these cancerous tumors in law enforcement.
I’d just like to add something:
I never in my life thought I would say this but - the police unions need to be broken. This situation will never stop if the police unions keep these sociopaths on the job after a “time out.”
Don’t worry. The deputies have been engaged in many hours of prayer and have gradually come to realize that their remarks, taken out of context as they were, may have been perceived as offensive by some. If so, they apologize. It’s all good!
Also, it was just a joke that didn’t come out right. And people calling racists “racist” are the true racists. Plus it’s not a matter of getting hung up on certain WORDS, like the PC police do–the n word, “hanging,” “Martin Luther King.” The main point was just to say things through texts, OK?
Glad that’s cleared up.
And let’s start by taking a look at some of these exempt police unions. Now there’s a union the Republicans can always get behind, even when all other unions are worthy of their trash-talk. Do you ever see the police union joining hand in hand in solidarity with other public sector unions like teachers or postal workers, or any of the trade unionists? Not that I can recall. Although I seem to remember the firefighters’ union trying to stand up to Gov. Walker when he had his full-on attack on the unions when he got into office. Firefighters were side by side in WI with average citizens in their State Capitol, as Walker’s attack on public sector unions persisted. But the moment Act 10, which seriously restricted public sector unions passed in WI, wily Gov. Walker, who exempted firefighters and cops from the act were conveniently let off the hook and have been noticeably silent going forward. Personally, I’d like to know how many times the Fraternal Order of Police has protected bad cops all around the country, who have racist histories and histories of brutality, allowing them to stay on the job and collect some of those paychecks.
Yes, I have a lot of relatives who live in Ohio and I grew up hearing them spout this kind of garbage every visit as a young girl.
What makes you think this has anything to do with police unions? We don’t even know whether this sheriff’s office is unionized. More generally with something like this the fish rots from the head. Getting rid of unions just means that crazy police chiefs can promote whoever they want and fire whoever complains.
