Everything you’re asking is just gun porn. None of the questions about guns matter. The issue is the guy killed lots of people, regardless of what gun he used. Why would you even care?
… so far.
The Second Amendment can burn in Hell
How did he manage to get so many rifles into his hotel room?? That’s the part that scares me…
That’s the easiest part, depending upon the models and type of rifles. Most ARs break down into components easily stowed in a normal duffel bag or suitcase. The tricky part, if those 18 or whatever weapons were of different models and calibers, would be getting in all the different ammunition and magazines he’d need. He had to have made many, many trips in and out, and in a busy place like Vegas, on a busy weekend, who would’ve noticed?
How did the cameras outside the room escape notice?
One account says he placed a compact camera on a food cart in the hall - presumably shortly before he began shooting.
This American Carnage, stops right here.
Some delusional grandiose person. January 20, 2017.
I watched the undersheriff at a press conference talking about what an amazing job they did getting to the scene in 11 minutes and what a great big new screen they had to show the police body cameras view of the violence. What is with all this “marketing” at this time?
Is the outline of the rooms correct? Was there an internal door between the room with a broken window and the adjacent suite with another broken window so Paddock could easily move between them without going out into the hall? If not, he risked confrontation and exposure going between the rooms (if he indeed used both rooms). If there was no door, did he break the wall between the two rooms to gain access? If Paddock was using both rooms as part of his plan, he most likely must have rented both when he checked in. Both in his own name (or an alias) or one in his own name, one in someone else’s (his girl friend since he had some of her identification?). I probably simply missed the fact he rented two rooms and they permitted access as many rooms in lodgings do. Not trying to make a horrible and confusing situation more complicated, just trying to clarify it.
None of that is “gun porn”. Those are the most relevant questions for preventing something like this from happening.
You can’t prevent crazy people from existing or doing something awful. But you can prevent them from being able to easily and legally access the means to kill 500 people as opposed to 2.
You’re asking many of the same questions I have/am. Hell, I’m not sure those broken windows in the pics are from two separate rooms or one big corner room. It’s tough not knowing anything about the layout at Mandalay Bay. The report that first mentioned the existence of a second room did state that one faced north and one faced east, which lines up with other pictures and diagrams I’ve seen.
Do you think you could kill and injure over 550 people with a semi or a revolver? No. Laws that allow a person to posses fire power vastly in excess of any legal use of a fire arm are gun porn. They’re meant to lure in the votes of inadequates and wanna bees. It won’t work this time guy. Yes the guns do kill people and these killed 58 and put 500 in the hospital.
Many of your questions were answered in this evening’s briefing (btwn 5:45 and 6) by the undersheriff - likely full video available on any local news website - KTNV, KLAS, KSNV.
Re: the girlfriend, later updates say she arrived in the US this evening (arrival city not specified) and was met by federal officials.
Late briefing by undersheriff said he had 3 cameras - 2 outside the room, set on room service carts on either side of the door, 1 in the peephole, facing the hallway.
I also watched that briefing. I thought the shoutout to the officers and how quickly they shut down the shooter was giving (well-deserved, IMHO) pats on the back to responders, but also to counter the outrageous claims being made online about how long it took.
As to the size of the screen, his voice when he referred to it sounded a bit sarcastic to me - as if he thought they had no reason for one that size there, but that’s what had been set up.
I’m working night shift, just saw on twitter where she’s landed at LAX, left with authorities but was not under arrest
Or a gag gift. I am going with gag gift.
According to Geldof, he wrote the song after reading a telex report at Georgia State University’s campus radio station, WRAS, on the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children in a school playground at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California, US on 29 January 1979, killing two adults and injuring eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime and her full explanation for her actions was “I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day”.
I read generalities about the make and model of the guns but nothing specific.
In my experience, almost none of the reporting in the immediate aftermath of these events is accurate. Inexperienced and sometimes naive reporters make a lot of assumption based upon shards of information that isn’t warranted. The people briefing the press often do the same things. The story evolves quickly and deadline pressures force a lot of inaccurate reports that often are never corrected into we see written reports by investigative authorities.
It’s been reported that he used ‘bump stocks’ to make the semi-automatics fire as if fully automatic, but that reporting has been vague and didn’t seemed confirmed – more assumed. It is the easiest explanation, and therefore most likely. Mixed with this were reports of fully automatic weapons but this could just be reporters not knowing the difference or police making assumptions.
Has there been reporting on where and when he bought this guns?
We can certainly assume a lot about Danley and what she knew. I’d like details. Danley who has lived in the US for decades and apparently has children and grandchildren in the U.S. (?) was out of the country at a very opportune time. Could be coincidence but we really need to know. In my mind it would be hard to live with someone amassing such an arsenal that included thousands of rounds of ammo and remain in ignorant bliss that something more sinister was coming, but I guess that’s a common story line in these shorts of things. And he could have amassed the guns at another property. We could speculate endlessly but I want to know.
I would not expect it to be, you always have contradicting info initially.
That’s definitely confirmed.
Actually a couple of the gun shop owners have been interviewed about the purchases, and recalled the purchases, etc. Not sure where you are getting info but those interviews have been on TV many times.
Yes, and you will get them, she is being interviewed. Patience please. You can’t expect this all to be known within a few days, especially since she was out of the country.
Again, it appears there was an arsenal at his Reno home, not his Mesquite home. This has been known for at least a day as well.
Frankly, I think LEO has been very up front and candid in this, as well as doing a fine job when this happened. And the media “news” has been pretty good as well, as long as you stay away from talking head opinion shows. Those shows and comments sections like this are notorious for bad info. Lots of people on here figured he was some right wing nut, and conservatives figured it was a left wing nut or Muslim terrorist. It appears at this point both were wrong, he was just a plain nut, and unfortunately a heavily armed one.
