That’s something I have actually found as a surprisingly common trait among conservatives (online at any rate). They often really don’t get sarcasm (witness the first season of Colbert going right over their heads). I honestly think it has to do with how people’s brains are wired and the resulting way the process things which leads people to embrace conservative views and thoughts vs. open or liberal assessment of events, positions, views, etc.

Have serious serious doubts about the integrity of this ideological zealot - 'Truther"
Fully expect that his investigation will make no effort to refute any conservative nut jobs current efforts to say:
- the shooter was Muslim / influenced by Muslims.
- the shooter was on some Russian ‘watch list’ that Obama ignored
Fully expect that his investigation will make no effort to explore / document / highlight
- the Shooter was reported to self identify on an internet website as “Republican”
- the Shooter had been in the US Military for a period of time
- the Shooter had possession of an absurd amount of firepower -

Its not just online, for the most part they don’t get sarcasm, but if you watch Colbert’s 2006 performance at the White House Correspondents Dinner, you’ll see some of them realizing that some of what he’s saying isn’t exactly complimentary.
