Discussion: Sheriff Concludes No Laws Broken During Mississippi Courthouse Caper

Discussion for article #223580

Not for lack of trying, apparently.

If the geniuses had had the presence of mind to consider the likelihood the door would lock behind them and take steps to keep it open, however . . .

Well that ends that because as we all know The Sheriff is the highest law in the land.

I guess that means we can all break in to our local county courthouse and hang out for the night. . . . .

I guess trespassing and lying to the police are legal in Hinds County. And being stupid is, of course, legal everywhere.

Why did it take them two and a half hours to call someone?

Why didn’t those three loons just chill out and walk out the door in the morning when the doors were open and they could slip out as if they had just entered for legitimate business a few minutes before, not calling any attention to themselves. Certainly they could have hidden out in restrooms or other nooks around a large unprotected building. I don’t get it.

I also don’t get why trespassing has gotten a pass. I’m pretty certain that entering a door that happened to be unlocked in a building posted as ‘closed’ is not lawful. It would be ok for a stranger to enter my home if I had neglected to lock the back door? I think those SYG states now have precedents that it’s ok to shoot people who enter, even innocently. This just doesn’t wash.

so they’re stupid, but not criminal

Because uniformed personnel didn’t let them in and they were/are not employees and the door was marked for employees only. They knew it was wrong to be in there.

Yes, perhaps they should have put some tape over the latch. Worked out pretty well for McCord, after all.

It ain’t over. They may have paid-off or otherwise pressured the Sheriff, but there is no way that this is the end of this story. Somebody (probably on the local paper, who’ve been heads-up from the beginning) is going to keep pulling on the thread. It’s my guess that the Tea Party lady will be the one who cracks and narcs-out the other Two Stooges.

what a stooge.

“…Chambers entered the courthouse through a door marked for employees only…”

IT’S LEGAL!

You just stick anything in the door - like a damned rock.

The question is: Why did they wait so long to call for assistance???

Part of me suspects they did and thought themselves very clever little burglars indeed, and then they discovered too late that the latch of a fire door doesn’t say taped shut.

So did they raid the vending machines and discuss their predicament for two and half hours?

I’m sure “Wtf are we gonna do?” started when they realized the door locked behind them. Don’t know when that was.

I want to know who left the door open for them. Janis Lane’s lie that they were let in by uniformed personnel looks an awfully like she was attempting to cover for someone. It is, however, possible that she was simply covering for the fact that they entered through an employees only door. The open door is rather too much of a coincidence for my taste.

In any event, this group of people should have known when and how observers were legally allowed to participate and whn they weren’t.

If they are in fact common or garden variety bunglers, I’m not at all surprised that they spent hours dithering about how to get out of the embarrassing predicament they had placed themselves in.

Given the amount of lying going on I sure hope there were courthouse cameras to confirm their stories.
