Discussion: Sheriff Apologizes To Female Lawyers Asked To Take Off Bras To Enter Jail

you could find all these things out without projecting.

The governor sets the tone.

I wonder how many reading that will get your sarcasm?

Yeah. Thatā€™s the ticket. Why not install a lady parts cam and vaginal ultrasound while the deputies are down there to monitor for contraband secreting.

Seriously, WTF. Security etiquette 101 would foresee that girls and boys are different, and gender-specific clothing carries metal in belts in men and in bras in women. Wands to check for metal have been around longer than cell phones. Havenā€™t they? What do these deputies do when men and women show metal because they have titanium knees?

This dumbfuckery seems to go beyond mere ā€œimproper guidance.ā€

When enough of NYā€™s Peter Kingā€™s ā€œcraziesā€ moved there so that they constituted more than a third of Mainers who realized they could win the governorship by splitting the sane opposition vote down the middle.

I live in Maine. Both Macdonald and Joyce are assholes.

Worse than LePage?

so if the leering lecherous deputies were making them " Take Off Bras To Enter Jail "
ā€¦ shudder to think what they made them do to leave ā€¦ ā€œfull cavity searchā€ ?

Um, actually this was a real apology. The sheriff took full responsibility for the action of his underlings because he did not provide them with proper guidance. He also apologized for any embarrassment that may have been experienced. It is his responsibility to provide guidance in situations like this. He failed at that. He apologized.

I know it has been such a long time since we have seen a real apology in the public sphere. This is what one looks like.

Here in Texas, to get a job as a prison guard you need 25 hours ā€˜detention trainingā€™, which basically means guarding the drunk tank at the county sheriffā€™s office and watching some videos with a morning class of instruction. At least that is what they require at the local prison. I assume the higher security ones have higher requirements. At least I hope they do.

A set of boobs that require anything metal for support have long been known to be weapons ā€” They should only have been required to show their concealed carry permits ā€”

The right to council is Constitutionally guaranteed. It does piss off a lot of law enforcement and corrections folks though. I doubt there was a real concern for underwires here. But that Sheriff need a bit bigger kick in the ass than an apology gives him. He placed a sexually degrading requirement between an attorney and her client obstructing that clientā€™s rights.

Iā€™m confused. The article clearly stated that this took place in Lewiston MNā€¦ which is Minnesota, not Maine. So either your second statement is a non sequitur or there are MacDonald and Joyce clones in Maine or youā€™re as confused as I am already.

Lewiston, MN? Mine says Portland, ME.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) ā€” A sheriff apologized Thursday to a pair of female lawyers who were told they needed to take off their underwire bras at jail to avoid setting off the metal detector if they wanted to talk to their incarcerated clientsā€¦

I think steviedee111 meant Lewiston, ME.

Thank you for the correction. Iā€™m totally confused now, because I actually did go look at (the/an) article that said MN, just to checkā€¦ and now canā€™t figure out where that came from. I think Iā€™m losing itā€¦ At any rate the story fits ME better than MN!

ā€œIā€™m real sorry, ladies. They aint bad boys. I just canā€™t think of enough things to tell them not to do.ā€

Yes. Except for Michelle Bachman, MN seems the much saner state of the two. If I did not happen to know there is a Lewiston, ME, Iā€™d be confused too.

had this not gone public, the sheriff wouldnā€™t even have done this half-assed apology. this isnā€™t the first time heā€™s heard about, he just ignored it the other times, because it didnā€™t show up on the news.

See they work cheap. That is until the city pays off the lawsuits - then they get very expensive.

I still disagree, this would have continued until it made the ā€œpapersā€. I canā€™t believe women would have allowed this to continue much beyond a day or so but for intimidation. The only way I see this passing was the Lawyers were concerned about what would happen to clients once they left the building. Those actions are not for lack of training or guidance. Even without training one would think common sense would prevail upon staff.
