Discussion: Sessions Won't Say If Russia Probe Was A Reason Trump Wanted Comey Fired

Sessions is equivocating, mumbling, taking a long time to decide how to answer the serious questions and using phony humor like a 12-year old who is obviously fudging the facts. He and the entire Trump administration should be so worried and embarrassed, but Iā€™m not expecting much to happen.

Like when he responded to Frankenā€™s questions during his Confirmation hearing. He made jokes, got caught lying in the hearings - and had to recuse himself from the Russia inquiry which still drives Trump bonkers.

Side note - what does this statement mean? Seems more than slightly contradictory.

ā€œI can neither assert executive privilege, nor can I disclose today the content of my confidential conversations with the President,ā€ Sessions said during his opening statement.

that was a *Yesā€™, right ?

Sessions now admits he had conversations with the Russians but is now saying that it wasnā€™t about the election but about policy positions. Was one of those policy positions ā€˜sanctionsā€™, ā€˜Ukraineā€™, or other RU wish list items? If so, then he is implicated in the conspiracy, especially if he knew that Russia had been in direct contact with the campaign on these matters and understood that Russians were doing things behind the scenes to boost Trump.

Iā€™m not a lawyer and I donā€™t play one on TV either, but it sure sounds like heā€™d like to take the fifth, but canā€™t do that either, so this gibberish spilled out.

Bad little Keebler elf. Heā€™s supposed to fall on his sword for the Dear Leader, not dodge and weave for his own benefit.

I read yesterday that even the GOP members of the committee (such as Grassley) donā€™t accept obfuscation and would expect direct answers from Sessions. Wrong - he is getting a complete pass from the Republicans, even when he refuses to answer some questions at all.

Sessions also refused to answer Trumpā€™s earlier question, ā€œDo I look fat in these pantsā€.

heā€™s not the presidentā€™s lawyer, he doesnā€™t get to exert executive privilege in this case was my understanding the first time through this charade

Executive privilege is a different type of privilege from attorney-client privilege. Youā€™re right that Sessions canā€™t assert attorney-client privilege. He canā€™t assert the chief executiveā€™s executive privilege either, but he gets around that by saying heā€™s not going to interfere with the presidentā€™s decision whether to assert that privilege.

ā€œI donā€™t think itā€™s been fully understood the significance of the errors that Comey made on the Clinton matter,ā€ Sessions said.

Oh, itā€™s been understood all right. And the idea that donnie and you, for that matter, werenā€™t happy about it, is not believable to ANYONE. How stupid are you that you would even bring it up? Very, very, very stupid.

Hereā€™s the thing about Sessions. In addition to being a ridiculous hyper-racist elf, he is just profoundly stupid. Every time he talks or tries to answer a question, his words, face and mannerisms all betray the extreme difficulty he has processing the most basic information. He is, in short, a complete moron, just like his boss.

So can some one help me understand ā€œexecutive privilege.ā€ The President can claim executive privilege on matters that he talked about with whom, his cabinet, his staff, himself? Then why hasnā€™t Trump declared ā€œexecutive privilegeā€ for any discussions he had in regards to Comeā€™s firing? Is this some legal maneuver to protect him and make Mueller ask every citizen in the US if they had any conversations with the President from 01/20/17 and April 2017?

I think Sessions will be gone, as will Trump. As Steve Bannon predicted, thereā€™s only a 30% chance of Trump finishing his term. Hmmm, not bringing a presidency to term; sounds sort of like a political abortion.

Leahy was brutalā€¦ and the Keebler elf was caught flat out with his hand in the cookie jar.

Franken is dismantling him for lying under oath and his discussions with the Russians.

Someone filed an ethics complaint with the Alabama bar association about Sessions lying under oath to the Senate. Wonder what ever happened with that.

That is true. So Iā€™m surprised as hell that he is trying to use that excuse and getting away with it. Thereā€™s no such thing between the AG and the President.

Indeed. Heā€™s still getting his lies straight.

Boy, Iā€™d love to see this Quisling hounded from public life, if not into the grave.
