Discussion: Sessions Sending DOJ Lawyer To Iowa To Prosecute Murder Of Transgender Teen

Sure they’re not there to sabotage the prosecution? I’d find that much easier to believe

Why do I think there’s a motive for doing this that is not just enforcement of the law? What could Sessions or Trump have said or done in the past that would suggest such a possibility? Is it maybe sabotage as @morrigan_2575 indicates? Is it the name of the defendant (do they think he’s an undocumented immigrant or a Dreamer?). There’s something else than what they’re saying, maybe just a head fake, but something.

Smoke and mirrors. Deflection tactic. @theghostofeustacetilley has nailed it.

Also: sabotage is very plausible.

This is one of those places where you just say “Good, keep doing things like that!”, and keep watching.

A career DoJ lawyer isn’t going to sabotage it. His or her career gets made by convictions, not by violating the Code of Professional Responsibility for a bigoted politician who will likely will be gone within a year.

It’s rare for the Justice Department to send a prosecutor to help with a local case, and Sessions’ decision shows he’s willing to fight violence against LGBT individuals even though he has rolled back protections for LGBT individuals as attorney general.

DOJ: Was the murder really unjustified? If we just pay attention to White Jesus, this would have been easily avoided.

There were certainly both good and bad people involved in this tragedy, from the side of the victim and the perpetrators. Can’t we all just get along?!

I hope you’re right. Of course, it depends on who they’ve sent. Do we know anything about this Christopher Perras??

He’s been put on the spot by a small group out of Congress — it’s definitely a CYA action.

So can the federal prosecutor even do anything? The language suggests that the feds can/will act only if a hate crime indictment is returned.

My oh my…how passive aggressive of you Jeffie…Roll back protections but then prosecute the criminals for taking advantage of that. Do you think this absolves you or something???

Sessions would load every gay on a train and ship them off to showers given the power to do so. He’d do the same to blacks and Hispanics. His dream is for it to be 1840 again in America, a dream shared by the 63 million people that voted for Trump.

I’m shocked that Li’l Jeffie isn’t helping the defense.

Oh absolutely. He’s probably got an elf-sized brown uniform at home in the back of his closet. That’s why there is absolutely no doubt that he is only doing this to avoid someone making a very pointed, very personal stink.

Perhaps he sees it as something that would garner him enough negative publicity to have Drumpfie’s laser focus back on himself again when Drumpfie is looking for a scapegoat. Who knows? It’s actually weird enough that the only explanation I can find is fear.

should an indictment in federal court be handed down

I find it difficult to believe that a sitting prosecutor said this. I realize it’s copied from the Des Moines Register, and I can see a reporter saying this, but anyone who deals with indictments on a daily basis knows which way they go. On the other hand, this is Iowa where up is frequently down and verse vica.
