He’s a racist bigot from way back and probably still is, what’s to discuss?
Thanks for the quotes from the letter, TPM. They formed the body of my “guess what everybody is reading today” fax to McConnell.
And that’s my problem with Sessions. I don’t have a problem with someone who acknowledges that they screwed up, who apologizes for their prior behavior, who has demonstrated by word and deed that they are no longer that individual.
None of this applies to Sessions, who appears to be today precisely who he was at that time.
"It was the first and most celebrated of a string of Justice Department cases that charged black civil rights activists in rural Alabama with ballot-tampering,” the Washington Post wrote in 1986.
And things haven’t changed much since. Except now they make laws to prevent this horrible, wide-spread “tampering” before it can happen, so they don’t need racist US Attorneys to trump up charges. Of course, if (when?) this asshole gets confirmed, they’ll be right back to 1986.
Not 1986. Try 1865.
He’s just learned to be a little more quite about it.
Yes, he comes from the mentality that whites and blacks should not “mix” socially. It is still very prevalent among some people in the South.
Sessions is being “quite quiet” about it. For now. Wait until he is confirmed and doesn’t have to pretend he’s not KKK anymore.
My god, the phrase, “Ive never heard anything so ridiculous,” is quickly becoming banal. I’m saying it twice a day or more lately.
They should invoke the bullshit rule on Sessions himself, because his own behavior auto-impugns his motives and character.
Yeah I know, I’m white, live in NC, and hear what white people say when blacks aren’t around.
Edit: And actually some of the most racist white folks I’ve met were white folks that moved down from above the Mason Dixon line. So geography only plays a small part in this.
It’s their loss as they are missing out on knowing some great people. It’s probably only a matter of time before Sessions slips up and is caught on recording saying something racist. Lots of people will be looking for it at the Justice Dept.
Well, the new geography might allow them to express their opinions more openly…
How nice that Bush era Professor Emeritus of Voter Suppression Hans Von Spakovsky is still on the job, working diligently to get blatant lies about Black Voter Fraud out there. Helluva job, Hans!
Maybe, but I’d venture to say that a lot of northern towns also have lower percentages of blacks so the whites don’t have much dealings with blacks. But when they do, I personally believe that they can be just as prejudice as southerners. Just saw a 20/20 episode about a black guy accused of killing his white girlfriends son. Garrett Phillips and it was pretty apparent there were a lot of racial tensions in the predominately white upstate NY town. I think racial tension is more of a human thing than geography thing.
Sessions is a racist. Any and all senators who vote him are are also racists and should be called out !!!
