Discussion: Sessions Names 17 Interim US Attys To Replace Forced Out Obama Appointees

They probably do, but from Liberty U. and Regent U.

Especially when he has one of them furrin names.

He could mean that, because it is a created opioid addiction crisis. But he’s talking about that in the context of hiring 17 temporary Federal Prosecutors.

If it’s about helping people, mitigating a pharmaceutical opioid epidemic, and intervening on behalf of those people that turned to heroin in desperation when their meds were cut off, then you wouldn’t need prosecutors for that.

People like Sessions conflate any use of drugs, regardless of circumstance, with criminality. And within that they see addiction – which ought to be viewed as a medical issue not a criminal one — as being entirely the fault and criminal responsibility of the user.

It gives no cachet at all to the fact that prescribed opioids are now commonly leading to addictions with severe withdrawal symptoms, and to mitigate those, some people turn to ā€œillicitā€ drugs. Thus, in the minds of people like Sessions, they are criminals deserving of prosecution and imprisonment.

Never mind it would save us billions to apply the more humane approach of addiction treatment, instead of prison terms. After all, we are a country that spends well over $150 BILLION a year on prisons and their prisoners (both public and private, averaging $60,000/yr per inmate). Surely there is a better way?

You are speaking, I am pretty sure, of Preet Bhatnagar. That useless tool was US Attorney for the Lower Part of Manhattan from 2009 to 2017. During this time, he had all of the opportunity to indict Jamie Damond, and the rest of the Wall Street criminals, but did not. So, what use is this useless piece of crap attorney? 8 years of nothing. This is again one of Obama’s huge pieces of crap. Obama was plenty happy to help out the banksters, but did nothing NOTHING as millions of Americans lost their homes. Worse even, he PRETENDED to help, but did not. Friends of ours had trouble refinancing, and got for 3-4 years the ā€œlost paperworkā€ bullcrap. Then they lost the house. Obama’s admin did nothing to help.

There are a number of local initiatives which are working. Drug courts which carefully and consistently monitor the status of abusers. Many of these have judges who themselves were abusers, and understand the issues.
