Discussion: Sessions: Consent Decrees ‘Can Reduce The Morale Of Police Officers’

He’s right, you know. Police have been known to shoot unarmed black men, often in the back, and the unwanted scrutiny makes them feel bad. Talk about a morale buster.

And having your unarmed child or husband or friend killed by the police because he’s, you know, dark-skinned and playing with a toy or selling cigarettes or walking or standing, kind of reduces the morale of families and whole communities.

There’s no hard evidence that the “broken windows” strategy of law enforcement actually reduces the crime rate. But it does cause a lot of anger and resentment within the community.

Feature, not a bug.

If I could smash that smug little troll in the face with a brick, it would do wonders towards improving MY morale.
God I hate that repulsive little toad

And not to mention when complying with an officer’s instructions, just don’t comply too fast or too slow.

I wish we could ship him back to 1930s Germany. He’d fit right in and we’d be rid of him.

Oh holy sht. When I hear his babble about stuff like this or ethics or morals or the damned LAW I often think about Alabama…who had him as attorney general, put him up for US Attorney, the Federal Judiciary and then the conservatives were saying if not THIS job then the Supreme Court…WTF? Are we always going to be promoting mediocrity in this country? What ever happened to the Best and the Brightest?

Frankly, I am more concerned with the attitude and appreciation of the local residents toward police than allowing police to overstep their authority in the use of violence for the sake of police morale. There was a time when most civilians respected their local police. In too many places that is no longer the case. Too many people, particularly in larger cities, have come to fear the police for good reason. These consent decrees are an effort to reverse that. And you know what, when people have more trust in their local police because the police stops viewing them as the enemy, I’ll bet that the morale of the average cop will improve significantly.

But then, perhaps Sessions and Drumpf prefer local stormtroopers & jackboots to community policing.

Police and other law enforcement personnel (sheriff, ICE, etc) know full well that they are held virtually unaccountable for the gross violations of citizen rights; so, don’t ever expect the thugs with badges to back off. Sessions is an insufferable prick who would love nothing more than a hundred more dead black citizens at the hands of criminal cops. He could not care less about our Constitutional rights and the cops know it. Police not only willfully violate our rights, they are rewarded for doing it. The only way our police state will be constrained is if cities pass laws that allow citizen panels to make criminal referrals to grand juries. DAs will not do it; in fact, most DAs are as corrupt as the cops; they’re all in the same club, so to speak. If citizen panels could review complaints and then insist that grand juries hear the charges against the cops, maybe it would send the right message. We can dream, can’t we?

Oh, FFS. Just put the hood on Mr. Attorney General. You’re not fooling anyone. Also, NYPD hasn’t actively pursued “broken windows” for some time now, and the crime rate continues to fall. Did you see what those fine upstanding officers in Georgia did yesterday? Their department wasn’t under any consent decree - but it looks like it should be.

He is a vile little man, just like the one who appointed him to the job. Thanks, GOP Senate!

Well that goes without saying.

“Consent decree agreements can reduce the morale of police officers.”

Who knew these tough guys with guns and tactical assault vehicles could be so cowed by a mere piece of paper?
