Discussion: Sentencing For Dylann Roof To Be Announced Soon

Being South Carolina, he will probably be sentenced to time served.

I’m assuming the verdict will be death. I am curious as to what the court of appeals does with this mess.

I confess to having mixed feelings about the death penalty, but if ever there was an evil person and it would be justified, it would be for Dylann Roof.

He got the death penalty. Excellent. If there’s a mother fucker who needed killing, it’s him. He’ll spend the rest of his existence on death row where he won’t be able to be some kind of martyr among the white power crowd. Nope. He’ll be just another inmate waiting to die.

Dylann Roof is a sick, twisted, racist psychopath who deserves the worst.

That doesn’t make the death penalty any less barbaric and wrong for a state to impose on anybody.

Solves nothing. The death penalty is wrong under all circumstances. The death penalty has killed more far more innocent people, and disproportionally people of color, than Dylan Roof ever did.

Sad day.

I never feel satisfaction when this happens. I always feel sad for a life wasted, what ever the reason. He could be mentally ill, or a totally evil sick fuck with no excuse who did this to himself . Either way it was life wasted

I don’t agree w/ death in this instance …

Mainly because it gives him what he wanted —

I’m sure that in Trump’s America, the death penalty will be very popular, especially for people of color.

ETA: Trump actually took out a full page ad calling for the death penalty for those black and Latino Central Park 5 who raped and viciously assaulted a white woman in Central Park. ā€˜ā€™ ā€œMuggers and murderersā€, he wrote, ā€œshould be forced to suffer, and, when they kill, should be executed.ā€ "

They didn’t do it, of course, and the Central Park Five were all exonerated after decades in jail. But I’m sure their death sentences were very popular at the time.

I agree.

I cant say I disagree even though I am against the death penalty and think the death penalty puts him out of his misery whereas life in prison would be much more of a penalty. Apparently in his case there isn’t much room for appeals so he may die sooner than later.

I’m thinking there won’t be an appeal. Roof seemed to want to die and didn’t put up much of a — or any — defense.

He will probably spend decades sitting on death row. But I think SCOTUS or at least these eight will be reviewing the entire issue of the death penalty and its constitutionality. In November on CA’s ballot there were two opposing issues concerning the death penalty. One was to abolish it and the other was to speed the execution process. Guess which won.

Like the 9 people he killed whose lives were wasted by him. I am not an advocate of the death penalty especially because too many innocent people have been put to death - but in his case there is no doubt. I would prefer he suffer in prison.

In his case, there is nothing to appeal so perhaps he wont sit on death row forever. This is South Carolina and not California.

That and death penalty is nothing but a state sanctioned murder.

So they’ll execute him right away. It seems to be what he wants, but I suspect the families of the victims won’t want that because they seemed to be a generous and forgiving group of people.

I’m a lifelong opponent of the death penalty.

That said…

I’ve heard that Ramsay Bolton’s hounds are available.

Nope, this is federal. Just like they got Timothy McVeigh’s ass up out of here quickly, they’ll do the same with this piece of shit.
