not surprising at all.
with the shutdown and no paychecks going out, trump thinks it’s a basket full of money free for the taking.

Well, many people are saying the administration had the most successful two years of any president. And how could you talk about impeaching a president whose administration officials just got $10K raises? IT MAKES NO SENSE COME ON PEOPLE.

Just curious… If the pay freeze gets approved later, would that retroactively take back the $10K, or once we pass Saturday would that be locked in, and any legislation would only affect future increases?

Only little people don’t get raises…

To summarize,
400K workers are idle, with no paycheck for food, rent, heat, etc.
400K workers are still working with no paycheck for food, rent, heat, etc.
COLA raises for 2019 federal workers cancelled.
10% raise for military is 1/4 of that lie.
But…

“It looks like Trump has protected [hundreds of] his own appointees, and everyone else gets screwed,” Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.)

MAGA!
Winning!

I know this is funny, but to actually appreciate the humor I have to open my mind to the comparison. I’m not sure if I can recover from the psychological damage that’s sure to ensue.

Somehow they’ll turn this into a deification of “job creators” and another spit at ordinary government workers.

You have to admit though that the typical government worker is not creating near as many jobs for lawyers.

Just another example of the FU, I got mine crowd, do not even think of postponement for a few weeks. Typical executive move, fiscal fitness never stopped the bonus payments, etc.

The government can’t retroactively take back something that was lawfully granted. Even though that sometimes seems regrettable, it has to be this way else government is based on whim, not laws.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure about this one, def. not a lawyer. Know they’ve been able to retroactively do pay-raises, wasn’t sure if that could go the other way.

The reality is that (a) republicans wanted to lift the “executive” pay freeze (which they insisted on in 2013 to stick it to Obama) and put that into their bills, and (b) the D’s wanted a 1.9% raise for line workers. They were negotiating on this for the final bill when Trump shut down the government.

Pelosi put a fix for this into the bill they past yesterday, which will up the pressure.

I don’t think there was some effort to slide one by (the reality is w/o a shutdown the freeze would have been lifted) but the deeper reality is that Trump’s administration is so stupid and understaffed that they had no idea that this was coming. It will seriously hurt Trump and make him look even more petty and corrupt. But no one flagged the issue for him, since they are just grifters who have no interest or capacity to actually run the government.

Yeah, a useful standard is whether someone might have relied on a government edict. If you rely on something the government tells you, the government shouldn’t be able to yank that rug out later, doing you harm.

Matt, as I was waiting in line with a bundle of American Flags to put on my lawn, many people came up to me to express gratitude that I was being so patriotic. A veteran, who was 6 feet tall with a crew cut and a state of the art fiber/metal limb came up to me with tears in his eyes and said “Hasn’t this been the best 2 years of your life? It certainly has mine. And we owe it all the greatest President who ever lived.”
As I type, I’m crying just thinking about their heartland values and faith in God.
