Lol! I immediately recognized that South African clip as being South African. White shirts and blue sweaters are the school uniform across the country. If the video panned down, those kids would be wearing grey skirts/pants, grey socks and black shoes. Raised five children in SA - have bought, labeled and washed more of that combo than I can count.

Burr & Co used those clips because American clips would show integrated schools and they just wanted to focus on those poor backwards black children being ‘saved’ by the great white Burr. North Carolina hasn’t had ‘separate but equal’ schools for a looooooooong time now, Senator. The subtext is so incredibly racist.

The campaign’s spokesman Jesse Hunt told TPM in an e-mailed statement that “Deborah Ross and her liberal allies should spend more of their time trying to come up with a better explanation for her fight against the creation of the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry. This is merely an attempt to distract people from her radical record with the ACLU.”

And here’s the the thing about Burr: he will go exactly as low as he needs to go to win a given election and not one inch lower. That’s what passes for integrity among “moderate” Republicans today.
