Suspect Republicans will try to move quickly. Whitaker proved (unsurprisingly) to be not up to Senate scrutiny.
Pegged the meter again, Yertle…
Who were the Democrats voting for him?
Is it too much to ask to at least name the Democrats that voted yes?
It was never in any doubt Barr could not win the AG job. He’s iffy, to put it diplomatically, on issues related to presidential authority. His lobbying for the AG job was unseemly, given his excellent reputation.
However, I admit to mixed feelings about Barr. He’s probably the best we’ll see in an AG for the Trump regime. Unless I’m completely wrong about him, I see no reason for Barr to destroy his personal reputation as a complete Trump henchman. Moreover, his friendship with Mueller tells he he won’t fire him.
The only risk from Barr is he either limits the investigation to Trump Russia (which means other DOJ offices can take it over) or asks Mueller to wrapt it up sooner or later.
There is a possible good side. It’s not out of the bounds of reality that Barr will try to restore some of the DOJ’s reputation and commitment to the law.
Anyway, this is my thinking.
Manchin and one other.
Senators Doug Jones of Alabama, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, Democrats who represent conservative or swing states, voted for him.
Don’t forget the wholesale pardons he sprinkled over all of the Reagan Iran-Contra felons. The lobbying he did for the job and the pardons are why he was nominated. And I don’t trust him, I don’t trust anything he says.
OT, but hopefully a glimmer of hope of what can happen if they keep Donnie locked up in his Oval playpen?
A tawdry play to make public lands available for mining and exploitation? Must be watched very carefully…
We will see leases soon available on new federal national public lands. Makes every acre vulnerable to repub carpetbaggers…
The fix, she is in (and has been for some time.) As @demosthenes59 posted above, he’s the best we’re going to get.
Dear Mr. Barr:
Our own government is bad enough. Get the Russians out of our lives.
Sincerely,
Your Bosses
Pardon-time consigliere.
Elliot Abrams vouched for him.
I don’t think Sessions acted like a “henchman” either to be honest. Trump was pissed at him just for that reason regarding Mueller. His conservative policies were horrible if expected but I don’t think he dishonored the office much on a professional basis. At any rate, I’m not sure how much Barr will do better.
Barr has professional cred but he his lobbying for the job suggests he is willing to bend his reputation some to keep Trump’s loyalty. If he is willing to do that there, wouldn’t be surprised he does something else while in office. Yes, I don’t think you’d get anything better for AG. Which is not really a reason for any Democrat other than those in conservative states to vote for him. I’m okay with them doing it.
Hope the Dem voters got their money up-front .
I don’t trust Barr either. I just think we won’t do better from the Trump regime.
If I were a Democratic Senator, I’d vote against Barr. I’m just saying his confirmation is inevitable and, while he is pretty bad, there are many worse potential AGs the Con Man could have chosen.
