Discussion: Senate GOPers Vote To Rebuke Warren Over Speech Slamming Sessions

Pretty sure Republicans have been regularly flouting said rule; they “flaunt” their lack of principles doing so.

–Headlines already seem to be coming down against the GOP for this action.

Is there any continuing effect on Senator, being “rebuked”? How does it compare in significance to being “censured”?

Oh, classy, guys.

And, um, you think that’ll get Liz down??

I suspect this will have the opposite effect from that which you think you are getting.

I think they realized how bad this looked, it’s why they let Sen. Merkley read it later.

Now it looks pretty darn sexist, too.

Well, so much for the GOPs oft stated love of freedom of speech. And, for that matter, that country and institution come before party.

That said, all they accomplished was to highlight Warren and make themselves look petty.

Funny how the rule never applied to President Obama or Secretary Clinton, when they were Senators or at any time since.

“The Senator has impugned the motives and conduct of our colleague from Alabama,”

Why can’t racists and thugs be proud of their accomplishments?

The immediate and long term effect is nil. A rebuke and even a formal censure based on a totally unprincipled partisan maneuver is nil. It has shown the GOP for what they truly are, a bunch of petty tyrants at heart and in their intentions and actions. McConnell was protecting his “colleague from Alabama” (and I think he meant fellow Dixiecrat, not fellow Seantor) from a letter that Strom Thurmond had tried to censor by keeping out of the Senate Record.

We all know the Southern Nationalist Block in our body politic has no shame.

The criticism is not as a Senator but as a nominee.

This could just be payback on the nepotism issue, as Warren voted against the confirmation of Mrs. Turtle.

“I’ve been red- carded on Sen. Sessions, I’m out of the game of the Senate floor. I don’t get to speak at all,” Warren said.

A woman quoting another woman on the floor of the Senate, lock her up.

He read almost the whole letter, but she can’t get through the first paragraph. And they also shut down Kamala Harris when she asked to yield back sometime shortly after the incident.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) objected to Republicans' ruling, and his spokesman, Matt House, said in a statement that McConnell "selectively" enforced a rule that Republican senators have "regularly flaunted" in the past.
