One thing to keep in mind, a trade war is just another front in Trumps’s / Putin’s campaign to dismantle U.S. influence and economic power throughout the world, as well as its alliances.

The Trump GOP Congress will do nothing to control Dear Leader on any issue, even ones they know (like deep punitive tariffs) are harmful to America.
The GOP Congress is completely under Trump’s thumb.

I think it should say famously uncommitted or famously confused. It seems to me saying famously flexible is somewhat positive. There is nothing positive about Trumps inconsistency.
Can someone start to introduce the idea that this §resident is attempting to destabilize the United States? Well intentioned my ass. Every single act this man has done is to throw someone here into chaos. His comments on steel tariffs will play well with the steel worker, just as they did on the coal worker. But the end result is at best nothing, at worse negative returns. I doubt he has ever looked at why the Steel industry lost its standing years ago. It is not simply about cheap overseas goods, but short sighted profiteering.
But the Chicago Trib has Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, saying:

Yep they are all in; sink or swim with Trump. It is my hope the sink, trump is impeached, before the election, the GOP and Pence are neutered, and scream in agony.
Face it, they are in a win or lose scenario, little in between. That has been their philosophy, they can choke on it. Winning, not actually doing anything is all they have. They are nursing Trump like a dodgy tire, it is going to blow, they are just hoping they get to the next town before it does.
