Discussion: Senate GOPer Introduces Bill Requiring Citizenship Question On Census

Depends on where they are incorporated. Many “US” corporations actually have paper incorporation’s in overseas tax havens.

It is common for the GOP to force newcomers such as the first-term MT senator to deliver the shit pizza. We saw this happen to Steve Knight, who inherited the job of introducing the perennial “Royalty Relief” bill for removal of mineral resources from federal lands. The vast numbers of people affected by this move, of course, do not live in Montana. As Knight learned in 2018, however, getting the reputation as the shit pizza delivery boy for your party really hurts your reelection chances.

I wonder how and when that Daines’ ancestors came to this country?

So, then, when will Daines be asking Chiselin’ Trump to release his tax returns?

My form will probably go back with the citizenship question unanswered. It won’t be a deliberate or premeditated flouting of my legal duty, of course. It likely will be due to a subconscious mental block, or perhaps a religious objection. So hard to know in advance.

Let them spend time tracking down the citizenship of citizens.

Edited to add:
It is a violation to give false information on the census. I’m not certain that I understand the laws about who is and isn’t a citizen. Maybe the safe thing to do is to leave it blank and let an expert make the determination.

So I think we should go back to the old census questions that asked how many guns were in each household, what types and how much ammunition. So they could plan their well-regulated militias.

An innocent misinterpretation of citizenship status landed a Texas woman an 8 year jail sentence.

Fucking political stunt, it will not oasz the house.

Dear Senator Daines of Montana:

Montana’s economy is facing a looming labor shortage in a wave of Baby Boomer retirements. The Montana Department of Labor and Industry expects nearly a fifth of Montana’s current labor force to retire in the next 10 years.

Governor Bullock says that means more Montanans need to be working and more people need to move to here.

And…

There are 223,000 Montanans between the ages of 50 to 65, but only 199,000 between the ages 10 to 25. As such, the cohorts aging out of the labor force are larger than those aging in.

There you go.

If you aren’t an expert on citizenship law, the question is a landmine.

Refusal to answer could mean a fine of up to $100. Giving a false answer can result in a fine of up to $500. Simple economics.

The Census doesn’t just mete out fines based on your initial response. It’s job is to get accurate data, so it would be typical to get a call, potentially followed by a field visit, if your form is incomplete or missing.

Therefore, failing to answer the citizenship question creates jobs. The GOP will be handing out tax breaks to everyone who leaves the question blank.

It’s quite clear that what the GOP and especially the President are going to campaign upon is the imposition of a South African style Apartheid State where White, Male, Christians are the only CITIZENS, and everyone else is a 2nd or 3rd class “person” who has no legal right to representation nor any voice in any Government body.

The smokescreen of “Constitutional Originalism” really means revoking every amendment after the 12th (which established the Electoral College) and a decree that only “White, Christian, Males” are the only people who can Vote while acknowledging that “Slavery” is A-OK, followed closely by a two new Amendments;

  1. That declares the United States of America a “Christian State” and removes the Stars from the Flag and replaces them with a White Cross.
  2. That declares a Hereditary Presidency.

These actions would garner a solid 40% approval from the current ignorant US voting population and that is the reason they are doing it (as Trump doesn’t care a rats ass about policy, just about his Ego.)

What (Native American) Tribe does he belong to?

We should also find out if they have semi-automatic weapons so we can get a good list of possibly illegally-armed Republicans.

It’s America, and we’re a sovereign , white, European, Conservative, Christian nation dedicated to disenfranchising or jettisoning anyone who we are told on Fox News not to like.

I don’t know how to convince people but we have to begin with the truth. Their fears are not baseless, but the greatest possible odds of being left alone is still to answer the mail survey. I guess I’d begin be translating this fact into the appropriate languages.

Just another GOP/Trump toady. Nothing new here.

I wonder how long Senator Daines family has been in America.

Your truth applies only to the Census Bureau. It does not apply to ICE. The census is not allowed to share individual or household data, it can release aggregate data for census blocks. Those blocks have 600-3000 people, according to the census. It is not hard to imagine an ICE under a re-elected Trumpp using Census data to identify areas for enforcement activity.

Feel free to create a new questionnaire to be sent to everyone asking their citizenship- you just can’t use the census for that. Read the constitution that you, as a conservative, are so keen to defend.

Fair point, but ICE could just as well quietly tail the canvassers or single out neighborhoods where nobody filled out the survey.
