I support public option which would lead to a defacto single payer in most areas. But straight to single-payer is not likely, practical or the best policy.
I’m amazed Manchin and Heitkamp haven’t said they’ll vote with him.
All proven facts and beyond question.
The pols that wrote the origins of Obamacare did so for many of the right reasons and as their answer to HillaryCare so that she wouldn’t get credit.
This current batch is absolutely useless and exist only to deny progress and undo it.
And of course, to undermine all things Obama.
Obamacare is basically solid and the fact that it has not fallen despite the Repubs efforts at sabotage is testament to that.
This proves that the Democrats did their homework and built in failsafes and contingencies as an insurance to the insurance.
I say again, if they think they are in hot water now and that killing O-care will get them out, they have another thing coming. The fury against them will be intense.
Any serious effort would start at the center of the Senate and move outwards, rather than starting at the center of the 52 seat GOP caucus and moving rightwards.
Before McConnell took over the GOP caucus, we wouldn’t even need to state this. This is legislative obstinacy that goes well beyond the Hastert rule, which in turn was a dysfunctional innovation compared to the norms that preceded it.
dude…
seriously?
In his defense, its hard to appeal to Wall Street donors and the Democratic base with the same message. The sweet, sweet siren song of Hate keeps the GOP base and donor class nice and cozy together.
These fools can’t govern. Full stop.
Unless WV Republicans have a candidate to replace him, Manchin likely doesn’t fear Trump’s power anymore. Now he might back ‘1600’ and vote to confirm Wray, but at the rate ‘45’ is going, don’t be surprised if folks start seeing ‘Manchin 2020’ banners in Charleston.
They also didn’t expect to be in this spot.
Sure. But they are now, and the onus to do so falls on them. It speaks volumes about the value of their “ideas” that they have done so little to advance their agenda even with virtual control of government.
More than that is out there. ‘Look, here are all the problems with the ACA… and here’s the record of the last six years where the Republicans have voted to make those problems, or voted to make problems worse, because they wanted to justify repeal.’
It would be funny as hell, if McConnell’s Senate painting n tombstone either read ‘killed by Trump’ or ‘life comes at you fast’.
I didn’t watch this back and forth so I can’t knowledgeably comment, but the few minutes he had is not where policy is made. All the pols that make it to TV use safe talking points. It’s not intended for a robust discussion. Moderator asks a question fed into his/her ear, guest utters something utterly bland.
Zowie.
I mean, it’s bad enough that one Republican state legislator resigns for sexual misconduct.
But both special elections being due to that? Woo. I mean, “Winning!”
“He threw some things out and said, ‘Joe what about this, this and
this?’ And I said, ‘You know, we’re not going vote to repeal,’” Manchin
told reporters. “But I said, ‘You know, if you’re wanting to repair and
fix it with the private sector and no harm to Medicaid, and get rid of
all the tax cuts you’re giving to the rich, let’s sit down and talk.’
And that’s where we left it.”
Invasion Of The Manchin Snatcher alert.
