Discussion: Senate GOP Can't Even Agree On Asking Dems For Obamacare Repeal Help

I really wish people like you were in charge of Democratic messaging. You’re right, the ball is teed up; it just needs someone to hit it out t the park. Instead of crafting a coherent message, we find Tom Perez running around, loudly trying to look cool and impress the big money donors. The national Democratic party reminds me of the Texas Democrats. They smugly hang on to their little perks, forgetting why the party was formed in the first place.

Well, block-granting Medicaid could be made into a not terrible idea. Just double the funding and index it to inflation moving forward. Require states to insure all their state and local government employees in the Medicaid pool. Require states to preserve the community rating, medical loss ratio, and essential health benefits of Obamacare, while offering a public option for anyone else to buy in.

The problem with any good idea is that it’ll be so far from what Republicans have on offer that it won’t be a compromise at all.

I am not sure if half the identified Democrats in this country could pick him out of a line-up.

This guy needs to be on all the morning talk shows. He needs to be a thorn in the side of the GOP, reminding the voting public of all the shortfalls. Needs to happen hourly and it’s not happening at all. He is ceding control to the GOP and it doesn’t have to be that way. The Dems had a winner in Howard Dean and he was banished from even being considered. Funny how, under his leadership, the nation knew where we stood, for better or for worse.

Where is the DNC today?

@becca656 Where is the DNC? In a back room laughing their asses off?
@jhand @ronbyers

Somebody has to explain to the rest of us how one party, that is, the Democrats, can function and run government on their own. It takes two parties and the Rs don’t how. They have failed at governance.

Yes Sen Kennedy. Move on to tax cuts for billionaires…oops! Sorry. I forgot you have to gut Medicaid for the $ to be there.

Forgive me for just a moment, but thank G-d they DON’T know how to govern. What with their agenda, I don’t want any of it and I suspect most of us here don’t (the supporters don’t know they don’t want it, yet).

But Nature abhors a vacuum. Someone has to fill this legislative vacuum up with something that makes sense. I can agree, the leadership is laughing their asses off, but at some point, the joke is on all of us and the laughing needs to stop and some serious action be taken.

You think that once they get finish laughing they will try working to win in 2018 or is that all supposed to happen magically?

Did you ever wonder if Bill Clinton challenging Trump to run for POTUS was a calculated move on Clinton’s part years ago? The Pubbies gave the Clintons lots of undeserved B.S. over the years and now Trump and the Pubbies have tons of their own grief to deal with that is all of their own making with the Pubbies and Obamacare as well as Trump happily accepting proven Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

I watched Perez the other day. When pressed he couldn’t come up with a single reason to Vote FOR Democrats that didn’t sound like it came off a Hallmark card. At least Warren and Sanders are trying to create a follow-on Progressive alternative to the ACA. Establishment Democrats need to realize this isn’t the best of all possible worlds. We have lots and lots of work to do to help create a more perfect union.

Now, now-to be fair to McConnell, I think racism is only one part of it. More is his hatred of all those who oppose the interests of those who own him.
Hypothetically, after they are vanquished, he can focus his hatred on those who own him.
Hypothetically, after they are vanquished, he can focus on the hatred he must hold for himself. That will be a pisser.

What is it you know about what the DNC is actually doing or not doing? Is it the absence of headline that makes you think they’re sitting still? Or lack of coverage at TPM? There has been reporting about how the Democratic party is recruiting women, and veterans of both genders to run in 2018 to replace the comatose incumbents.

The NYT has been reporting the party is recruiting veterans because they represent the best of America has to offer a country tired of inaction.

What a national committee does is mostly a big yawn and it’s centered around fundraising…

Then why was it, when Reince Priebus was head of the RNC, he was on every Sunday morning talk show for the better part of a year? DWS spent her fair share of time as well.

Where’s Mr. Perez? Wasn’t Mr. Ellison also given a position of responsibility in the DNC? Where is he (and I know he’s serving in the House in my neighboring State of Minnesota, but this makes the good argument for the position to be a full-time job with no distractions)?

For something of this magnitude, one has to be able to multi-task. Recruiting new candidates is undeniably part of the job, but it’s not the sole responsibility.

There’s a tendency to get Rs on Sunday morning gas bag fests because they say provocative things about Democrats that the networks like to run with. DWS could no longer appear once DNC records were hacked, she was forced to resign. Where is Mr. Perez? Maybe he’s working instead of jawing in a format that has become almost useless to the political process in a world of 24/7 news cycles.

This morning I get the sense that the air is coming out of the Trumpcare balloon. House Dems unveiled an ACA fix plan which, apart from Medicare Buy in, seems aligned to what Senate Dems and Senate GOPers are talking about to stabilize the ACA market. I don’t think the Senate GOP has the fight in them to take out Obamacare with an illegitimate President sitting in the WH. Not declaring victory, but my daily meter on Obamacare puts chances of repeal down to 35% and I suspect the jig will be up soon. Donald Jr. has done very little to give back to the country from which he has taken so much, but he may be the backbreaker for Trumpcare.

So tell me how else the message gets out?

That might be true to a degree, but I also imagine they are simply standing by, watching the GOP self-destruct over this issue. It also would distract from the GOP melt down, which should be witnessed in all its glory. You might recall the incredible effectiveness of the GOP doing nothing except criticizing when Obama was negotiating healthcare - worked pretty well for them! I guarantee they will have a plan, unlike the GOP

Do you really think the message would be “heard” right now? Why not stand aside and let the GOP complete their journey to incoherence. I would venture to bet that Perez is indeed working hard with the 2018 midterms in mind - voter registration, candidate recruitment, etc. The shitstorm going down in DC is the most valuable PR we could have right now.

There will be a message. But why squander it when no one is listening?

Senator Cassidy is just waiting for his own version of the Cornhusker Kickback…Call it the Louisiana Purchase for his vote. And Manchin just wants to make sure his evil fucking daughter, Heather Bresch, who raised the price for Epipens by 461%, and got a 671% increase in her compensation package as the head of a pharmaceutical company, never has to face the music for her heartlessness and greed. That’s the kind of child Manchin raised…Says just about everything to me about what kind of shithead he is.

Fuck all these assholes. No matter how much they try to sweeten the pot for individual Senators to vote for this monstrosity, its a bad bill with no upside for any American that at some point will be in need of affordable healthcare.

When will Dems wake the $%^& up and realize that Medicare for All is the MOST TRULY CONSERVATIVE PLAN EVER and then sell it as such??? It insures everyone, while saving vast sums of Taxpayer Dollars, it relieves Business of the Massive Burden of providing health insurance for their employees while making them More Competitive with the rest of the world, it provides for a Healthier Workforce, it Eliminates the Billing Bureaucracy while improving payment Efficiency, and eliminates Pricing Uncertainty and Improves Pricing Transparency. In a nutshell, it is EVERYTHING CONservatives claim to favor. (Of course, we all know that what they really favor is anything that can make them wads of money while being as cruel as possible to their own voter base. But your average Republican’t voter hasn’t quite caught onto that yet…)
