Discussion: Senate Gets FBI Kavanaugh Report, With Initial Vote Friday

I’d like to hold out some hope for a no vote result, but I don’t think there’s any way Trump lets this guy get away. Not for Roe v. Wade. Just about any Conservative Justice would take care of that agenda. But Kavanaugh’s skewed view of a President’s right to disobey the law (at least while in office) is Trump’s get out of jail card. Literally. And Trump needs to place that view on the Court before the November election. I’m praying I’ll be proven wrong.

I feel that the result is indeterminate, and that McConnell is still trying to bluff his way to a confirmation.

Background checks do not traditionally contain investigators’ conclusions about who they believe is credible.

Really? So, then, the report just might contain investigators’ conclusions/suggestions on who they suspect is lying and who is telling the truth? This goes against what Republicans have been shouting for over two weeks.

Most outrageous quote from McConnell referring to some sexual assault survivors going after GOP Senators:

“part of the organized effort” to derail Kavanaugh’s nomination.

There is NO WAY this can be put in the same league as the organized effort behind the great election theft of 2000 in Florida. The GOP faithful may have short memory spans, but the rest of us know an organized effort when we see one.

holy jeebus, another day or so of this shit.

I am totally worn out.

Elections can’t come soon enough.

The way it was limited means you can have no confidence in the FBI report. But I think Americans have made up their minds who’s credible, and the senators know more information will be coming out over time whether the FBI reveals it or not. I think a number of Republican senators are asking themselves what’s best for their own careers, with the answer not at all obvious.

“On Twitter, he hailed Kavanaugh as “a fine man and great intellect””

Putting aside, for the moment, the question of whether K is a “fine man” (as opposed to a man who deserves to be fined) what is the actual evidence that he is a “great intellect” and that the Hair Furor would know one from a hole in the ground?

Late last night the WSJ reported this:

WASHINGTON—The White House has found no corroboration of the allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after examining interview reports from the FBI’s latest probe into the judge’s background, according to people familiar with the matter.

I think most of us expected that given the constraints on the investigation. I’m pretty certain that two Republicans might vote no, but not so sure they won’t pick up a red state Democrat or two with some kind of deal.

I’ve met a lot of people over the years with fancy Ivy degrees. Most are pretty bright but I wouldn’t call any of them “great intellects.” If that’s going to mean anything at all, it has to mean being outstanding in your field, a star everyone knows of. Kavanaugh isn’t close to that. Trump–pfft. He doesn’t have enough neural capacity left to judge between two models of washing machine. He reflexively describes everything in the most hyperbolic terms possible to a very crude mind.

As soon as tRump announced Kavanope the R’s were faced with a Hobson’s choice which aged about as well as a chicken carcass in a hot trash can for a week and it’s only gotten worse since then. If his confirmation ignites a fire storm of anger from women voters it could have multi-generational impact (thank dog, about time).

I agree. It’s hard in a field like law, where so much is subjective and a “great decision” from the Court is one that serves one’s interests or predilections, to evaluate Justices free of one’s own biases. But I would say, even though I disagreed very strongly with him, that Scalia was a significant intellect (at least before age caught up with him towards the end). I see Kavanaugh as lacking in that comparison.

No way will the FBI allow their reputation to be sullied by old turtle and dotards foisting a drunk and serial sexual abuser onto the court and take the blame… The scam report will get out and brett, dotard, and turdle will be pariahs forever…The current members of the court will not want to have thier reputations associated or sullied by brett, dotard, or turdle in the annuals of history…

Shunning will be massive but only the tip of the iceburg that wI’ll crash down on ALL responsible…and the investigations will continue and be exposed…

No one who uses the nonsense doctrine of “original intent” to justify anti-democratic and unconstitutional judicial decisions is anything near a “significant intellect.”

Amazingly, Obama was not blamed for Kavanaughs earlier life ‘antics’. Is it possible that we are witnessing the end of the “because of Obama” era.
That would be a bigly huuuge step in the right direction.

We may have to settle for Kavanaugh impeachment hearings when it becomes even more obvious that he lied to the Senate committee. He probably told some whoppers when he was nominated to the Circuit Court, too.

While I agree that Republican senators may be asking about what’s best for their careers, I fear that the answer for most of them is to make sure they still get that big donor money. SAD!!!

Everyone is a great intellect when compared to tRump

And already the White House is signaling that their report is in favor of their Supreme Court pic. Seriously. What a pack of lies, of course that’s what we expected from this White House he’s a liar.

There supreme court applicant is ill which proves that he is biased in favor of Republicans namely the White House. This supreme court it would be on a short leash for Donald Trump.

The applicant is ill tempered, a liar, and is not suited for the chambers of the White House I mean the Supreme Court which to date is filled with highly intellectual judges. He would bring to their Chambers an extension of the White House he would be tempered two words most of the judges and his temperament is not suited for this position. And his threats of what goes around comes around is a direct threat to the Democrats or anyone who may not agree with them Creating a hostile work environment.
