I don’t think Medicare for those of us who are already on it will survive if it is privatized for those 55 and under. Would those 55 and under keep paying into the pool of money that supports those currently on Medicare or would they be paying into a pool of money that supports vouchers? I know enough about math to see that this is not sustainable and threatens my Medicare.
Especially when, when it comes down to it, these ‘bring it on’ exchanges always end like this:
GOP: Let’s go.
DEM: Bring it on.
(GOP lunges for their artery)
DEM (Now fetal) Don’t hurt me.
Story FAILS from the very first line. To wit:
If Republicans are planning to repeal Obamacare on Jan. 3 and then come looking for help from Democrats to replace it down the road (…)
You FOOLS, they are not planning to REPLACE!! They never did!! Back to the shitpile that was CorporateCare is the aim!
It’s REPEAL AND DON’T REPLACE, you morons!
Democrats are the MAJORITY of the American people the Popular vote confirms that. The Republican Party the Party of “No you can’t have that” needs to grow up. they are cowards thats who they are and oh Selfish self centered cowards. Now they have the Leader of Self Centered go lead whiney babies!! Democrats Stand your Ground
One answer for the Democrats might be just to subject all Republican bills to carry a truth in labeling requirement. So,The Illiteracy and Innumeracy for All Act, The “Short Lives Matter” Medicare Abolition Act, The Muslim Internment and Deportation Act, The Waltons Made Us Do This Act, The What Exxon and Kochs Asked For Act, etc.
Yes, and use this naming whenever they refer to them, make them stick, make Republicans own it. It’s exactly what George Lakoff has been urging us to do. Frame the issue, pound it into public consciousness. Never let anyone forget that this is a minority president – he without mandate.
Except that only works with the voters they already pander to, so it’s mostly preaching to the choir. And the population base of those voters just keeps shrinking. They’ve kept it up since Reagan, but that strategy was never going to work forever. And the pathetic part for them is they’ve never planned another strategy because doing so is against their nature.
That’s what we told ourselves before this election. It’s clearly working on more than the choir, or that choir is a lot bigger than we give it credit for … or it’s growing.
You’re quite the clever debater!
I don’t know that they’ve ever stopped doing so. Remember - they got the most votes for President and for the House.
What they’re not doing is promising everyone a pony, or claiming that only they can save us from terrorists who want to kill us in our beds.
You can only go so far by telling the truth.
There is an old saying:
When my neighbor is out of work, it is a recession.
When I am out of work, it is a depression.
John Q. Public will only care about healthcare insurance reform when it directly affects them. Either they lose it all together or premiums/deductibles skyrocket.
If the GOP were deft enough to parse healthcare insurance and see that only ‘the other undeserving’ were cut-off…
But they are not. They are ham-fisted and every problem is a nail in need of a hammer. This is a really BIG nail that needs a really BIG hammer.
John Q. Public is going to be pissed as hell more sooner than later.
The truth is for losers! Sad.
Spot on, and it really isn’t that difficult.
Bring out people with diabetes – which inflicts an increasing number of Americans, and therefore will resonate – and explain that Republicans are promising to condemn those diabetics to bankruptcy and death. Over and over and over.
Make Republicans explain, every single time, why a diabetic should have to choose between medicine or their mortgage.
Start calling their stupid vouchers “coupons” and make it extremely clear that it won’t come close to covering the costs of Grandma’s medical care, especially when it’s left up to for-profit insurers.
Run ads showing elderly people and sick kids and people in wheelchairs with dollar signs taped to their foreheads. Call this “The Republican vision for American healthcare,” and say it’s what Republicans see when they look at your family members.
Make Republicans explain every single time why your middle-class grandparents should die because they can’t afford for-profit medical care. When they deny it, repeat it.
Democrats should say nothing else during their media appearances until this issue is as dead as middle-class grandparents under For-Profit Republicancare.
Um, yeah, but then, because the prohibition on discriminating against patients with preexisting conditions stands, there will be no individual insurance market whatsoever. Insurers just will not sell policies to individuals. Period. And the GOP will own that. And dumb as they are, they know it.
Once Congress finally passes rules requiring CBO to use “dynamic scoring”, all bets are off … ACA repeal and all the other skeevy “reforms” our con friends have for us.
Lots of sentiment here for playing hardball.
Remember all the sentiment for playing hardball against the Iraq authorization?
Cons count on liberals to fold under pressure.because they got used to seeing it work when they had the White House. One of the great risks of having a conscience is that people without one will play to it and dare you to behave like them, when not being like them is fundamental to who you are.
That is what’s coming. Schumer’s GWB act may sound offputting, but I think it sends the right message.
Now we just need to play it through to the end.
I’m not afraid of them killing the filibuster, because, then, they will be fully responsible for either doing bigly stuff that the American people don’t want or backing away from that stuff-- or there will be enough Republicans joining Democrats to stop their plans. So long as there is a filibuster possibility, they can avoid passing legislation that the American people don’t want while, at the same time, telling the base that it was Democratic obstruction. Since McConnell knows this, I don’t think the filibuster is going anywhere anytime soon.
Hitler in 1933 I believe and then Stalin was Man of the Year shortly after Hitler.
Create a crisis. Buy low. Sell high. All U Need To Know about Trump business mode;.
This is key. This is absolutely essential. And I was pleased as punch to hear Schumer emphasizing this.
But when it comes to Democrats staying on message, I have nothing but apprehension. They’ve never been good at it.
Most people are incapable of thinking, as the election proves.
