Discussion: Senate Dems Still Crushing Their GOP Rivals In Fundraising

The good news: Only 200 days to the mid-terms.

The bad news: The (roughly) 25 million dollars raised by the various Dems is probably of the order of what the Russians spent to fuck up the 2016 “race”.

The even worse news: Efforts to rebuff meddling in these elections? Disorganized and flaccid.

It must be comforting to the Republicans to know that, no matter how bad things get, the Russians have their backs.

The Democrats should invite Trump to speak at their fundraisers.

The GOP made the fatal error of waking the slumbering financial and organizational beast that is the American bourgeoisie. You fuck with tens of millions from the most educated and productive section of the population, you get yourself a shit storm of monumental proportions. And it’s far from over.

Just want to point out that Gov. Sick Rott of Florida is self funding with money stolen from Medicare by the company he “managed”.

It’s not always about money, as Jeb Bush can testify too.

Think it would be nice to have gold and silver stars beside amounts raised. Gold star is no money from PACs. Silver star is no money from pharms, fossil fuel, or NRA.

Also number of and median donation would be great to see.

Manchin’s $800,000 haul was the lowest of the Democratic incumbents

I wonder why.

Well that might be going up if Blankenship wins the GOP primary.

Whopee fucking doo…meanwhile the GOP CONTINUES to crush Americans everywhere…they will find a way to lie, cheat and “fund” their way to key wins…maybe this time voter suppression and balky voting machines or the tried and true rigged gerrymandered districts…they have subverted democracy and it will be difficult to unseat them.

True, but as other posters have alluded to, Jeb was the candidate of his father’s old boy network. Newport, the Hamptons. As @nemo astutely points out, this money and energy and rage come from the leafy suburbs, places like Short Hills and Bryn Mawr, the doctors, lawyers, university profs, regional directors of marketing, creative directors, the people who sit on boards of nonprofits, the ones who buy subscription seats to the symphony and show up at gallery receptions. They’re smart and disciplined AF. Educated, connected, successful. They’re the Parkland kids’ parents. They’re us here, basically. And they underestimated Trump and the perfidy of the GOP once. No more.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more than a few usual GOP funders sitting 2018 out. They got their tax cuts. As long as a Republican is president they really don’t need to worry about the tax cut bill being repealed or rewritten. The things that matter most to the wealthy would be safe under any Republican president. But this current Republican president may be too dangerous and too much of a drag on the party and the country to be seen as worth protecting with a GOP Congress. Some may decide that his dangerousness and general ineptitude outweigh anything they have to gain by keeping in place a Congress that will protect him. They’ve always got Pence.

True, and Manchin just doesn’t need the kind of money to run in WV that other Democrats need. $50,000 in WV buys you three or four times what the same amount of money might get you in any of the neighboring states.

Then there is the big GOP Donor in Massachussets, who is so disturbed by Trump and the lack of accountability by the GOP congress over Trump’s admin, that he is funding Democrats this cycle.

I don’t watch TV at home but I saw a Tom Steyer ad at a friend’s house last night. Mark Cuban comes to mind. The Learjet Liberals are on the march.

McCaskill doesn’t even need the money.

Veterans groups are sponsoring TV spots for her talking about how she helps the military and families of the wounded and disabled. While Republicans have had to stop running RNC/Koch Brothers ads that have an actress talking about the $2000 bonus that nobody else in the state got after the Republican Tax Bill for the Wealthy was passed.

Next, I suppose Republicans will drag out Todd Akin to talk about “necessary rape” again to help support Revenge Porn King, GOP Governor Greitens. State Attorney General Josh Hawley, McCaskill’s opponent, has even set up a legal battle with the Governor trying to distance himself from the scandal. But it only highlights how both have been become best buddies with Donald Trump, Pussy Grabber Extraordinaire.

In times of economic stability brought on by the leadership of Barack Obama, everyone has the luxury of voting what they really feel about Republicans instead of their fears of wedge issues. And that’s exactly what is going to happen in November in this state and every other.
