Discussion: Senate Dems Ready To Unveil Bill Reversing Hobby Lobby Ruling

I don’t see the down side about passing the Senate, which can only happen absent a filibuster (ha! That would be a joke, no?). Most Repubs would vote against it and all of them in the House will, so the end result is the same.

As to a bumper sticker, how about:

Yours is about a realistic scenario that we can hope for.

Can that bell be “un-rung?”

Regardless of this legislation, that loophole has been opened until closed by the supremes.

Dirty Harry is about to have his jock strap handed to him by the Republicans in the Senate…he will NEVER get enough votes to invoke clouture…sure he will try to use that as a hammer against the right by calling them obstructionist, but the people are wise to this dolts modus operandi. You lose on this one Cupcake.

Makes too much sense, the GOP won’t be having any of that, even though they supported the original RFRA. Sad…but just another nail in the coffin of the GOP.

They need to amend it to EVERY bill that comes to or attempts to pass through the Senate until it passes into law. DO NOT pass ANY bill until this amendment passes. Make it “permanent” for at least ten years - where it cannot be repealed, overridden, or prevented for at least as decade. Just like the Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy.

Use Rethuglican tactics to get it done.

Why would that be a backfire? Ultimately, we do want the bill to pass.

At worst, it becomes another bi-partisan Senate bill that goes to House limbo. Then, Democrats and willing Republicans can use it to beat up the obstructionist TPers.

How dare an employer offer only 16 forms of birth control!

Harry better hurry, he’ll be out of a job in 6 months.

The Democrats are holding the Rs feet to the fire in what they know is a bill to nowhere, and too bad it’s only their feet.

What’s interesting is that at the same time you hear Reid hinting about filibuster reform–“use it or lose it”. So maybe he’s planning on calling the GOPs bluff and make them actually hold the floor and explain why they support Hobby Lobby for 30 hours.

Problem is it may pass the Senate but no way will it get past the knuckle draggers in the house.

Love your name. You are a fool. Why do you make such an effort at confirming it?

Get this: an employer has NO BUSINESS offering any medical treatment at all. Not at ALL. What happens between a person and his/her doctor is NONE of their CONCERN. PERIOD. You right - wingers love to talk about government over-reach, but you constantly make exceptions for your own small-minded busibodyness. My advice: Grow up and tend to your own families. From what I read about you guys you could stand to spend a little more time at home keeping your progeny out of crime and other troubles.

They no longer have to, thanks to Alito’s next-day “clarification” that extended the decision to all birth control.

Throwing verbal bombs again I see. Some times poking a hornets nest with a sharp stick isn’t a good idea.

Then it’s up to the significant others of the Congress critters to impose a withholding tax until they do the right thing.

No piece without victory! works as a bumper sticker, sound bite and sexual politics.

It has to pass the Senate sometime, so why not now?

Boehner has allowed some bi-partisan bills to reach the House floor for votes, and they have passed. This may be another one. Alito’s “clarification” to extend the decision to all birth control may be putting many Republicans, even TPers, on the spot for different reasons.

I’d be astonished if it doesn’t die a quiet death before it makes it to the Senate floor, much as I deeply hope that it does. Were it to make to the floor?*

*Who the fuck am I kidding? Never going to get there.

Question is, are Democrats in Congress willing to use this piece of proposed legislation that stands no chance of going anywhere? I want to really hope they can.

And whenever I hope Democrats in Congress will be unified over anything, I also always feel like Charlie Brown with the football.

They did manage, however, to stick together last fall. Gosh. Was it only less than a year ago that the GOP threatened something?

You better hurry and brush up on some basic facts like the terms of Senators.

Better yet? Don’t bother. The better to fool you more.

Except Democrats and the non-insane GOP members of the House are faced with a Speaker who will not bring a bill to a vote.

Method may be too strong a word.
