Good. I heard a political commentator yesterday reminding listeners that Kelly was a crucial part of all of the questionable immigration policy drafted by the Trump administration and has been happy to let ICE run wild. I am less convinced than others that he is some kind of moderate savior.
Thanks, but why nothing about the possibility Trump will make a recess appointment (perfect for Kobach) and then there won’t be hearings?
Because there isn’t going to be another recess until the end of this Congress (and maybe not even then, depending on the circumstances). Even Republicans don’t want him to replace Sessions with a(n even more servile) toady.
Kelly’s belief seems to be that ICE are soldiers by any other name and therefore have every right to “obey” the law to the maximum extent. If he continues to conflate military and civilian roles then his time as Chief of Staff will be particularly corrosive.
I am sick of hearing how much integrity Kelly has. How he “almost” quit when Trump fired Comey. How he served for 45 years. etc etc. He has no integrity if he agreed to serve in Trumps admin. He is another paper tiger. Let’s not forget everyone thought Mike Flynn was beyond reproach too. Kelly was caught on open mike telling Trump he could use the sword on the media. Is that integrity? No, Kelly is not some hero come to save the day. Kelly is a Trump flunky.
I believe it has already been established that there will be no recess, and hence no recess appointment.
Here’s an example of Kelly’s supposed integrity (He’s still DHS head) from the NYT:
“The Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday said that it would use its authority to exempt the agency from having to comply with environmental and other laws in its efforts to build border walls and access roads in the San Diego area.”
He is no moderate. Kelly is a Trump flunky trying to masquerade as some “honorable” general. Let us not forget Gen. Patraus, touted as the second coming, until he went down in flames for telling secrets to his mistress. Mike Flynn was supposedly another general with integrity, until he turned into a traitor to his country. Kelly deserves what is coming his way.
“The big question is who[m] Trump will nominate.”
Rumor has it Donald wants another military man, but none of them will touch it.
His list of remaining candidates has dwindled to General Mills, Colonel Sanders, and Captain Crunch.
(Although Don Jr. is still lobbying for Admiral Appliances.)
