Discussion: Senate Dems' Campaign Arm Delays Ad Buy In Florida

Little Marco will be sweating this out until election day.

I stopped donating to the DSCC years ago. Not that I was ever a donor that they really gave 2 shits about.

Typical Fla Dem Party
Questionable candidate running against a guy who should be easy to beat.
Competence dare not speak it’s name.
The pacs have been hammering this guy since May . The problem is most of the poo they are flinging …mostly true
From the same guys that brought you Republican turned Independent turned Democrat Charlie Christ vs Rick Scott a universally loathed governor
At least they’re consistent ,. No Surprises

Are we really hurting for that money?
Run both ad campaigns and more ffs, it’s worth it.

This is just so sad…Rubio doesn’t even WANT the job but has nowhere else to go. Murphy would be great, wants the job and would work for the American people. WTF?

This is why this Dem stopped sending money to the DSCC or any Dem organization. They don’t fight. Better off just sending money directly to the campaign. We need Murphy. We don’t need to give up on him.

The Florida Democratic Party is a disaster, just… a disaster :disappointed:

Murphy & Murphy, U.S. Senate

Sounds good to me

Murphy is locked in a tough race against incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). According to TPM’s PollTracker Average, Rubio is leading Murphy 44.1 to 41.7.

I have no idea what’s going on there, but in general I would say that “bailing” on a Democratic Senate candidate who is just a couple points behind a GOP incumbent, in an important swing state, with two months to go before the election, wouldn’t make a lick of sense.

So I’m hoping this is just about more strategic timing of ad buys, as the DSCC is claiming, and not a sign that they’re pulling back from the race. Even if this particular candidate isn’t a great one, Florida is important in the presidential race, control of the Senate is extremely important…and if the Rubiot 2.0 can be permanently decommissioned in the process, well, that would be a nice bonus.

Florida is a very expensive market for advertising so it is one of the few competitive places where it makes sense to spend carefully, and co-ordinate with the presidential campaign. I don’t know if that is what they are doing, but it would make sense.

I reckon, but then again, politics at this level isn’t cheap. Is Marco conserving his cash?

We will surpass the billion dollar mark this election and if more is needed, it always seems to come.

We either play to win or we lose. Money shouldn’t be what holds us back in today’s world.

Precisely. The race is already tightening, just as predicted, since the primaries last week. This is a VERY winnable race for us. The super PAC ads against him have been pretty weak sauce,IMO…and Rubio is an extremely target rich environment for running counter ads. He did a lot of lasting damage to himself during the presidential bid, and hasn’t helped by his inane remarks concerning Zika.

@ekramer there is a big pow wow going on with the state party and the various campaigns this week in Tampa, probably to hammer out the details of precisely these type of things. But even still, the DSCC should NOT be getting wishy washy on this campaign right now. Holding back on Strickland in OH, maybe…but not Murphy down here.

Murphy in FL, Fitzpatrick in AZ, Ross in NC, Cortez Maestro in NV, McGinty in PA, Hassan in NH…these are all going to be tight races and they are all races where the proper funding can make or break the election.

EDIT TO ADD:

This might have something to do with that decision, too. Hillary and her allies are dumping massive amounts of capital on Florida this week, and that will in all likelihood continue throughout.

Have you looked at Texas’ lately?

Who does Little Marco he think he is? The Thrilla from Wasilla? Sad!

It’s good to know they are coordinating activities. Clinton is ahead in Florida so she can help win the Senate seat by working together on ads and events.

Maybe not. The latest from PPP shows a deadheat

Murphy is not a great candidate for the Dems. Nonetheless, I voted for him because Grayson has too much baggage to have been even as competitive as Murphy. I worry about the Dems in Florida and have for a long time.

Yes, and let’s remember that it doesn’t make sense for the DSCC (an organization with the sole monetary intent to elect Democrats to the Senate) to dump it’s funds into swing state Dems who are already going to be able to piggyback onto the presidential election and a top of the ticket who’ll be dripping with cash. It’s better they focus their money RIGHT NOW in states like IN and AZ where the Senate candidate stands a better chance in the long run than Clinton. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Why are they pulling money he’s on 3 pt down
