One Independent, King of ME, joined 40 Dems. But 14 Dems voted for it, and they are the usual suspects.
Lot of talk about Democrats losing in 2014. Most of those losses were of Blue Dog, GOP Lite, Democrats. Progressive Democrats, including those who ran on defending Obamacare and other Democrat policies won.
Mary, Walmart needs greeters.
The Bill canât create jobs. Government doesnât create jobs.
and this point cannot be emphasized enough. iirc, she also insisted on a special increase in fees for louisiana doctors accepting medicare. adios, mary.
wonder what k street firm sheâs going to hook up with. blanche lincoln is ms monsantoâŚ
Bye, bye, Mary. Try careerbuilder.com for your next job.
Really?
Facts and history say otherwise.
The phony Democrats who supported the bill were Sens. Mark Begich, Michael Bennet, Tom Carper, Bob Casey, Joe Donnelly, Kay Hagan, Heidi Heitkamp, Mary Landrieu, Joe Manchin, Claire McCaskill, Mark Pryor, Jon Tester, John Walsh and Mark Warner.
Four of those will be gone come Jan. Bye, and donât let the oily door hit ya.
How much do we love Senator Boxer???
And I think all of those Dem noâs will be in the next Congress, yes? Wait, Harkin is retiring, so 40 of them. Still, not bad.
I remember it well. Joe Lieberscum was another one. Dragged it out long enough for Kennedy to die, and his seat turn R.
man I hope she loses, I also hope reid loses. its time to vote out these democrats who care more about the party than about the American people. I wish we could get rid of 'mrs I want to spy on all americans (sen diane Feinstein) too
boxer was outspoken during the bush admin and now sheâs the little midget that approves of spying on the American people
On the other hand, a GOPer will oppose ALL Democratic progress as opposed to only some.
With all due respect, liberal strategy doesnât work in red America, particularly carbon energy country.
I hope crazed folks on the right start raising hell about how ineffective their new master Mitch McConnell is. You voted for him and the GOP leadership put him in power.
He couldnât even get this simple bill across the finish line.
Anyone who knows better knows that McConnell is good at making his turtle neck sway back and forth as he poses for the cameras but in terms of getting real work done McConnell sucks.
That is the real story here, not Landrieu.
I think she was done regardless, because the race is just not close enough for something marginal to swing it, but I donât think passing the bill was the point of this stunt. Instead, I think the point was to allow her to cast a vote in favor of it. Demonstrating that she is breaking with the Senate Democratic Caucus is the point.
Or just run for the hills, please.
TPM says:
The GOP will have a 54-seat majority if Cassidy defeats Landrieu.
Say what?
Boxer also went out to Connecticut to campaign for Lieberman when he was being seriously challenged by a great Democrat. With Boxer itâs sometimes chicken, sometimes feathers. Of course thatâs better than Feinstein who is all the time chicken shit.
A little perspective is in order. These are the antics of the upper house of a great nation fighting over the right to pump a propane-laden kerogen sludge, euphemistically referred to as âheavy sour crude,â to support the needs of Mordor. Liberating such dirty long-sequestered hydrocarbons in such a dirty manner, and then having a fight about who gets to refine the stuff shows that we are literally scraping the bottom of the oil barrel. This is the same problem mining companies also face; they must choose between giant open pit operations at an economy of scale large enough to justify to extraction of low-grade ores or putting money into exploration to find the remaining small rich deposits in convenient locations. As noted last year in the CSMonitor:
â[A] majority of the largest giant fields are over 50 years old, and fewer and fewer new giants have been discovered since the decade of the 1960s.â The top 10 fields with their location and the year production began are: Ghawar (Saudi Arabia) 1951, Burgan (Kuwait) 1945, Safaniya (Saudi Arabia) 1957, Rumaila (Iraq) 1955, Bolivar Coastal (Venezuela) 1917, Samotlor (Russia) 1964, Kirkuk (Iraq) 1934, Berri (Saudi Arabia) 1964, Manifa (Saudi Arabia) 1964, and Shaybah (Saudi Arabia) 1998 (discovered 1968). (This list was taken from Fredrik Robeliusâs âGiant Oil Fields -The Highway to Oil.â)
Keystone is not just bad for the air or Alberta groundwater, it gives political cover in avoiding the fact that most big oil fields were discovered at least 50 years ago, even if our exploration technology today is vastly better. Shale oil has also been a disaster for Canadian politics, creating a petrostate that behaves even worse than Russia towards its future generations. Unlike Norwayâs sovereign $900 billion wealth fund, which is designed to provide extracted wealth back to future generations, Canada (Alberta Heritage Fund) has set aside just $10 billion.
