Discussion: Senate Democrats Consider Keystone Pipleine Vote In Lame Duck Session

Discussion for article #230077

This is exactly the stupid strategic thinking that cost them the majority. What boggles my mind is that they aren’t cranking through nominations. Republicans might not let any Obama nominees get confirmed, so why aren’t the Democrats confirming like crazy now?

So they’ll rush this for a Blue Dog, but haven’t got the ‘time’ or balls to vote on and approve Loretta Lynch? God I despise these assholes.

Ohhh, we must not do anything to anger mr. Priebus, he might say something mean to us! Godamn
bunch of cowards!

I guess I’d rather see Landrieu defeated than have the Keystone pipeline approved. However, won’t the Senate just able to pass it anyway next year? So at this point, aren’t all our hopes pinned on Obama’s opposition to stop it?

If I recall correctly from elementary logic: if A yields B and B yields C then A yields C.

Therefore, politicians favoring Keystone XL like “Democrat” Mary Landrieu mean game over for the climate. But oh, we dare not say it, because, you know, it’s Louisiana and all that, and we desperately need the vote of someone aligned against us.

And the GOP/Teatrolls will block it so they can pass it with THEIR majority and try to take all the credit.

Next.

Keg stand,anyone?

Of course! We must vote for it so Landrieu can lose by only 10 points instead of 12 points.

Great strategery.

This is just another example of why more and more I am beginning to agree with those that say there is no difference between the two parties, and also why I fired off angry emails to every Dem entity after the election, telling them to get the hell rid of Reid, and to turn over leadership positions to younger, more progressive Dems.

That woman is not going to win, KXL or not, so the ever increasing corporate friendly Dems will put our environment at risk, and the water of millions of Americans, and she will still lose, and the teacons will still be in control. How much more proof do we need, that our party is a bunch of wimpy, spineless, politicians who evidently learned no lessons last Tuesday, about falling into the right’s trap over and over again?

We need a Progressive Party, who are not afraid of promoting all of those progressive policies, that the idiots in those red states voted in favor of last Tuesday, if they had such things as raising the minimum wage on their ballots. Our old Dem party, is just that, old, out of touch with it’s base, and only too happy to keep moving further right. Our base needs to quit staying at home on election day, because we are sick and tired of being sold out by our own party, and do as the teabag base did, start at the grass roots growing our own Progressive Party, and kick the old corporate friendly relics in the Dem party where they belong, out on the curb.

You are probably right Carlos however, it would be nice once in a while to see our party not sell out it’s base, and then wonder why they can’t summon the energy to vote for them.

What dumb clucks. Muddy the waters that Obama has just clarified with the enormous China deal and his EPA directives.

We need a new and much, much smarter democratic party.

I say let’s name it Democrats 2.0…

What utter crap. Landrieu has the chance of a snowball in hell of being re-elected. This is a perfect example of the SPINELESSNESS of Democrats - they all want to be “Republican lite,” which is why they ALL LOST LAST WEEK…

God damn these motherfuckers to hell if they do this.

Correction: Democrats are most certainly not wimpy and spineless.

They are simply bought and paid for. I believe the proper term would be “bribed”

I realize that appearances can be deceiving, but there can really no longer be any doubt.

Keystone XL is game over for planet earth. I’d exult if only the humans could go extinct asap. But, unfortunately that is not possible. We are taking everything down with us, including the entire planet. As these negative feedback loops kick in to warming the planet ever faster, and many such warming loops are developing, the planet will simply burn up and disappear into the cosmos as scattered dust. Probably the most apparent feedback and most obvious to everyone is the melting of the icecaps. As the icecaps melt, less white exists to reflect the sun / solar heat. As more of the solar heating impinges on the remaining white, more ice will melt again allowing more heating as more heat reaches the earth with less ice to reflect it. On and on infinitum. Add this warming loop to others also well publicized and, Houston, we have a problem. It’s called nuclear implosion with meltdown. Meltdown of our Great Mother who supports everything. Such will be our universe again, in perfect order - sans Planet Earth, our Great Mother.

Is this why they don’t have time to vote to confirm Loretta Lynch?

Here we go yet again! Surrender before the battle even starts. Someone please tell me why I should remain a Democrat?

The Keystone Pipeline, if built, will increase the enormous damage to the environment that the Canadian tar sand exploiters are already wreaking and will certainly result in oil pipeline leaks along its length in the US.

Even if it is a certainty that it will be built, we should fight it tooth and nail, beginning in the midwestern red states through which it will be built.

Why not ask all the Republican Keystone supporters to purchase property along its route and reside directly over it?

Amen!

I am as upset about it as anyone but who here doesn’t believe whatever action is take on the Keystone XL Pipeline won’t be undone by the republicans when they take over. And, even taking all these factors out of the equation, some how. some way, it will get passed eventually.

The fix is in folks. There is very little any of us can do to stop the effects of climate change - we are not the only ones contributing to the problem and the fix would have to be massive to make any difference and that ain’t gonna happen. Enjoy your lives as best you can for as long as you can an grieve for your young children and grandchildren if you have any.
