Discussion: Sen. Susan Collins Isn't Sold On GOP Plan To Defund Planned Parenthood

Discussion for article #243310

Senators who are running for President should be barred from voting----- at all.

i.e. they should resign.

Collins has not been clear on exactly where she would be on a final vote if the Planned Parenthood defund provision remains part of the bill,

Gee, that’s so un-like her.
She’ll vote to de-fund, watch this space.

If Democrats introduce an amendment to strike the provision from the broader reconciliation bill, the Maine moderate said Tuesday she would support it.

I see somebody saw last week’s episode of Scandal. If only we had a few Democrats willing to do a Mellie Grant.

So will she play the reluctant debutante here like she did with health care? Note, that term originated with Adlai Stevenson (the most overrated liberal pol in history) and I’ve used it with plenty of her male colleagues.

Wishy-Washy!! Grow a spine, lady.

Can someone explain to me what grounds they have to “defund” Planned Parenthood? I can see how a public health organization could close a place for not meeting minimal standards but that isn’t the case here. Presumably they would deny Medicaid funds to Planned Parenthood, which ONLY uses Medicaid funds to deliver health screening and birth control devices and prescriptions, thus REDUCING the need for abortions.

PP also performs abortions (a legal procedure) in some (not all) of their facilities. Could Congress “defund” other clinics, or even hospitals? If so, they could just close down all facilities that take care of indigent populations. Think of the money they could save! We could have even more wars and no one making over a couple of million would ever have to pay taxes again!

…but I digress…how can they “defund” a legitimate health care provider just because some people (GOP) don’t like them?
