Discussion: Sen. Susan Collins Announces She Will Vote Against Pruitt For EPA

I couldn’t agree more

It won’t do any good to contact Manchin unless you are a West Virginia voter. They are the ones who will decide his future.

I realize Manchin can be infuriating, but these calls to purge him from the party are counterproductive. He is keeping a Senate seat from a very red state in the D column. The alternative to him is not a more liberal Democrat - it’s a Republican.

We have to think strategically. If Manchin can win in 2018, that locks down a seat in the D column for three more electoral cycles. We need every D seat we can get if we are ever to win back a Senate majority, which is way more important than what any individual senator does.

All that matters is the letter after the name - one more step toward majority control. The rest is just sound and fury.

We need to keep Manchin in the party and get him to win in 2018 or there will be one less D and one more R, making a majority even more of an uphill climb.

That doesn’t matter. A moderate Republican is still an R. A conservative Democrat is still a D. The step towards majority control is all that matters.

I agree with you committee chairs are very important

I’m just asking questions. I mean, he appointed himself to that senate position so evidently, HE thinks he is the best person for the job. Then again, self endorsement is no recommendation. WV voters will decide what to do about him and then they shall have their reward.

I disagree with everyone who thinks this is nothing - what this is is the solid GOP wall crumbling. Before the Russian shit hit the fan they were about 100% for all his nominees and now they aren’t.

But the refrain here is “we need more Centrist Democracts”, “Bernie is an opportunist troll for wanting to have townhalls in WV” and “why talk to the loser rednecks who will never vote for progressives anyway”.

O never mind I see this is another argument about Bernie.

Oy gevalt.

A vote in the D column that keeps voting for Rs ??? That obstructs anything constructive? Like the Blue Dogs did to the ACA?

No it is an argument against those who had their panties in a wad because Bernie wanted to have a townhall in WV.

Not just committee chairs - subpoena power. There will never be any real investigation of Trump’s outrages unless Dems control at least one of the houses.

The only reason Trump is president is because Dems ceded control of the House in 2010. Without a Republican majority in the house, there would have been no Benghazi witch hunt aimed at bringing down Clinton. No e-mail “scandal.” No Comey letter.

I detect that many on our side really don’t understand just how crucial majority control of Congress is. It’s well worth tolerating some conservadems like Manchin. In fact, if we want a “50-state strategy”, that will mean more Manchins, not fewer.

Point is - he is probably the only person in WV who has a chance in hell of keeping that Senate seat in the D column. We need every D we can get.

Collins currently appears to be the only Republican planning to vote against Pruitt.

Which is why the instant she’s in danger of being the third or fourth vote against Pruitt, she’ll change back to “yea,” unless the floodgates open and she can switch back to “nay” as the 20th vote against him.

This is her schtick. Oh dear, I voted with 48 Democrats but darn it, it just wasn’t enough. Shucks. Well, anyway, vote Collins, “The Moderate One.”

As long as there is an Electoroal College we will need people from these States
We lost
I don’t care how you frame it. Impeach Trump , there is Pence, then Ryan. Then Hatcher, then Tillerson, with a GOP Senate and Congress. Not to mention we have what 16 states and the GOP the rest.
A little reality is called for

The usual GOP song and dance: Collins the fake “moderate” says no, but she knows the other votes are there, as with Betsy Bear.

The phony “Moderate” strikes again.

This means they have the votes and she can continue her act.

Yet without them we.wouldnt have the ACA.

And before you say it no there was no one else.

Respectfully, I don’t see the difference between a D that bows to Trump the Rapist or an R that does. The whole lipstick on a pig thing. Rapist won WV by an overwhelming margin. If Manchin is beholden to the same voter, what difference does it make what letter preambles his name?

He votes with Rs but caucuses with Dems. There was zero chance or less of getting a moderate (much less progressive) Dem to fill Byrd’s seat. At least this is one less seat on the R side when we’re trying to win back control of the Senate.
