Discussion: Sen. Mike Lee Took A Pass On Immediately Endorsing Ted Cruz For President

Discussion for article #234642

The Republicans seem to be leaving Cruz’ campaign in boatloads.

I think this is a more appropriate mode of transportation for Republicans.

It’s too soon to back any candidate. Nobody in the GOP is arguing against the points Cruz is running on. Smart little Republicans will wait to see how Cruz’ latest train wreck will play to the base.
You can get a fat free hot air corn popper for about $35 for a healthier election season. Bulk organic popcorn runs about $2. Enjoy

Honeybucket?

One would think (and hope) that an announcement of a run for the Presidency would be met with accolades, excitement, and endorsements with people jumping on the bandwagon. In Cruz’s case, there is “zippo,” with folks actually expressing doubt, refusals to endorse, and warnings of his tossing of “bloody meat.” Indeed, the post-announcement reaction resembles the flushing of a toilet.

You know, we all sound better as singers when we’re by ourselves in the shower. This might by analogy serve as an explanation for how/why Cruz announced in the way he did.

This is good news for John McCain.

Cruz has repeatedly said that he didn’t come to Washington to make friends. Now he’s finding out just how spectacularly he has succeeded.

Yep. It wouldn’t make a lick of sense to get behind the 1st candidate out of the gate and one who is polling so poorly with the base. It’s just smart politics to wait to see who’s firing up the base, who’ll have the money, and which coattails will be the best to ride.

Bummer. I was so looking forward to the buddy movie biopic that was sure to follow this gaping train wreck for Cruz.

My thought exactly!

Lee and Cruz were certainly tight buds when they reached out to the House and persuaded it to shut down the government. I’m taking a wild guess that it backfired back home in Utah because of the national parks that were shut down Lee’s stupid move so why should he buddy up to Cruz again.

Isn’t it normal to have at least one or two endorsers ready at the start, to create some sense of momentum and excitement for the canditate ? Ted Cruz is going nowhere…

Why would anyone go to Lee and ask him for his opinion on anything?
He’s only been in the Senate since 2010, that’s 4 phucking years! He’s still “wet from the womb,” for God’s sake!

But still smart enough to avoid Cruz…

True, and that’s a good point. Maybe his calculation is that he doesn’t want anyone inside the Beltway endorsing his campaign, not that they would anyway. It allows him to say, “See, no one endorsed me because WaRshington hates me because I won’t back down to the establishment”. I would imagine that the kinds of endorsements he’d want are from the folks at Dick Dynasty or those Duggar people with 20 some odd kids. I think those actually mean more to the Republican base.
