Discussion: Sen. Kirk Sorry For Racially-Charged Comment About Rep. Duckworth

Translation: “Oh, shit, that’s right - I’m running in Illinois.”

This probably seals the deal for Duckworth, and good thing too. There was no excuse for that remark, but it is illustrative of how Republicans look at racial relations in general. I have a direct relative who served and died in the Revolutionary War, and Kirk would never even conceive of doubting that heritage because I’m white. Someone who is non-white, they automatically assume is not really an American, despite any heritage they have, even if it’s as deep as Duckworth’s. This isn’t just one asshole, it’s endemic to the party, and why Trump has achieved the success he has by inflaming that attitude.

It would be nice if this election ended up being a wave where the Republicans were punished for holding this attitude and finally gave it up, but I’m not holding my breath on that.

I’ll bet he’s sorry. That was his Macaca moment, and it probably sealed the deal for Duckworth.

I applaud your apology Senator …

Though, I fear, the deep seated motives underlying the original comment still remain within you, and your party —

I had a dog when I was a kid. This dog wasn’t very bright. He once ate a hole thru our hollow core basement door for some reason. I guess to get into the basement… My dad scolded that dog by voice severely. You could see it was chastened. My dad forgave the pup but the hole still remained. Much like what Sen. Kirk has done. Kirk’s insult to Tammy remains… even though he has apologized He is doing his best to hold onto trump’s coat tails it seems and ya know what the result will be?

Surprisingly, he didn’t use the typical Republican response about his comments being taken out of context. We have to give him at least for that.

Can only suspect that Kirk did some rapid polling to calculate whether to

(A.) issue an apology to try to minimize the destructive force of his stupidity
or
(B.) double down to try to pull in some solid racist votes (hey votes are votes right?) …
… Kirk was probably ready to go with a Trump-like double-down - “Hey … just look at her - look at her eyes - you don’t think General Washington had any solders with eyes that look like that do you” or something worse to tantalize the bigot vote
… but since Kirk can’t even cultivate support from the right wing racists … he seems to be trying to minimize the devastation that his brainless remarks have created.

I will give Kirk a brownie point for proper apology. But he is still gonna lose his seat in the Senate. Deservedly so.

What a coward. Soon to be ex-Senator Kirk (R-acist) should apologize TO TAMMY directly, not via Twitter. His cowardice never seems to end.

His statement and seemingly self-satisfaction at his racially offensive wit was deplorable. The rot goes all the way through the GOP, not just the “extreme” Trump/Tea Party wing.

“I’m so sorry I revealed how I really think. I mean… I’m sorry you found out how I really think. And how my fellow Republicans really think. I’m really, really, profoundly, deeply utterly sorry I let you see that my deepest self is a genuine stinking racist scumbag ass.”

Sorry Senator, with that snide racist remark you showed us Illinoisans who you really are under the bright lights and pressure of real debate. I’ll be calling Tammy my senator in about 12 days . . . and you a loser.
