Trump did not win Wisconsin so I suspect that Ryan has leverage that Sessions and many other Republicans do not have, even assuming that they would like to decline to support Trump. My view is that Trump is such an outlier and so unacceptable it’s worth staking your political career on opposing him, that Ben Sasse, however much I disagree with him on virtually everything under the sun, is right and people like Jeff Sessions are just showing how much the Republican Party is really just Jim Crow dressed up in a suit. Fellow travelers include people like Nebraska’s other senator, Deb Fischer, who said something like she “had” to support Trump because she didn’t want to “hand” the election to Hillary Clinton. These people are truly loathsome. When you listen to them you really can hear the echos of how the Weimar Republic fell.
I hear ya.
Sen. Jeff Sessions needs to visit an exorcist.
And now he has continued his use of the word “Mexican” as a slur in his verbal assault on a federal judge. As far as I can tell, Trump has extreme impulse control issues when it comes to calling people names, and his brain is ultraprimed to reach for ethnic and racial slurs when considering how to express displeasure and disagreement with others. In other words, he actually is a racist sexist jerk.
Li’l Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III —AKA The Keebler Elf of the Senate----is a known racist and Klan sympathizer.
He thought the Klan was great until he learned that a lot of them smoked pot.
In 1986, he became only the second nominee in 48 years to be turned down for a federal judgeship—and he’s still pissed about it and still trying to get revenge for it.
He’s also monumentally stupid and possessed of an overweening ego that makes him a fine candidate to be Trump’s own Mini-Me.
I suppose he is a racist, sexist jerk. But studying Trump’s life history indicates to me he lashes out at anyone that contradicts him, challenges his authority, deigns to lay claim to something he thinks is rightfully his, threatens to sieze a monetary advantage or belittles some aspect of his intelligence, physique or business acumen.
Maybe he tore into Susana Martinez or Nikki Haley because they’re women. But they’re women that refuse to endorse him. Judge Curiel is a target less for the ethnicity of his name than the fact he oversees a trial threatening Trump’s business legacy (and maybe more importantly, his wallet).
I think Trump is primarily animated by personal threats of various natures. He’ll find ways to denigrate and threaten the sources of his ire regardless who they are. For him if they’re women, business/political competitors, foreigners or hail from some minority subset of the populace that’s just a twofer.
“Trump is going to appeal better to African Americans, Hispanics, and others than previous Republican candidates because he’s talking about what they want: a fair chance to have a better life economically,” Sessions.
What has Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III been smoking?
Of course, he is narcissistic and hates being contradicted, but what comes out of his mouth most often are personal insults and name calling, and these are frequently based on ethnic and gender slurs or stereotypes. Even his way of insulting white men (like the other Republican candidates) is to feminize them. To be “like” a woman is an insult in his playbook.
Sen. Sessions wants the demise of the Republican party to be total and complete; no lifeline for its continuation after 2016 as might be possible if any significant Republican leader stands apart from the incompetent, racist demagogue who they will be nominating and clamoring for as their standard-bearer.
East Chicago is in Indiana
I thought the old joke was that East Chicago was underwater–in Lake Michigan.
My bad. Although any reticence admitting you’re from Indiana is very understandable.
“Where are you from?”
“Oh, East Chicago.”
“Really, so how do you like living in Illinois?”
“Oh, I like it just fine, thank you.”
to hell with you sessions who’s heart and “soul”?? are as black as his beady little weasel eyes…and you know lyein ryan will fall in line like the good little facist he is…
Trump is where the Republicans are…
Yes, yes he is.
“Trump is going to appeal better to African Americans, Hispanics, and others than previous Republican candidates because he’s talking about what they want: a fair chance to have a better life economically,” Sessions.
Yes, I remember all those lengthy speeches about how he’s going to give African Americans and Hispanics a better shot at economic stability. Building that wall, I guess. Oh, and killing families of terrorists, too.
He
… Good luck with that…
Sessions is beginning to look just like Andrei Gromyko.
I think if Ryan could wrangle his own party into cutting Social Security, or if he could bamboozle Democrats into helping him cut it, as he tried to do with Obama, I bet Rump would sign it.
The window on that is quickly closing, or has already closed. Republicans, far more than Democrats, are heavily dependent upon older voters…precisely the people who are receiving SSI and Medicare benefits. Their will to cut those is gone…they could have made a serious run at in the 80s, maybe even the 90s…but now in the 10s going into the 20s…its a non starter with their voters.
Which he never did, and never will.
Maybe. But its predicated upon two fault assumptions, so I think its a moot point. Plus, add in that Ryan is unable to pass even the basic bills through the House, the possibility of him passing something major like a cut in SSI is zero.
So there’s really no reason for Rump to avoid training his inner insult comic against the Speaker, and the sooner the better.
It is a well known fact that young ambitious politicians just adore being told what to do by old has-been politicians.
