Discussion: Sen. Jeff Sessions: Paul Ryan Needs To Support Donald Trump

“Why, he must endorse Jefferson Davis…er, I mean Donald Trump, in order to protect the Virgin Flower of Our White Womanfolk!”, screamed the little dwarf bigot while wearing his Stonewall Jackson Mini-Me costume.

There you go again with your high -falutin’ math. How many times do we have to explain, if it feels like we are in the lead then we must be.

"the Republican Party is the Republican voters"

And this is possibly the reduction of the problem with the Republican Party to its simplest possible terms. It only remains to be pointed out in a footnote that Republican voters are people who have been ideologically conditioned to vote against their own best interests.

Sessions wants it, but apparently he isn’t on the short list. My guess is its going to come down to Corker and Christie.

I would speculate that Sessions isn’t being considered because…A) he is dumb as a rock and B) he has a history of being too cozy with white supremacy groups.

And while Trump doesn’t seem to have a problem with those groups endorsing him and working for him…putting Sessions on the ticket turns that wink into an outright public hug. That’s simply not worth it for a dumb as a rock running mate.

Christie and Trump will be HUGE.

Paul Ryan DOES support Donald Trump! He hasn’t resigned. He hasn’t switched parties. Their substantive ideas are 95% aligned and where they differ it’s clear that one or both of them is simply making it up as he goes.

The question is whether Donald Trump supports Paul Ryan. How much of Ryan’s pitiful distancing effort will Rump’s inner insult comic tolerate, before tearing the Speaker a new gavel in public?

Sessions is one of those Senators who makes me wonder why it had to be Senator Wellstone’s plane.

And when Trump goes down to ignominious defeat, the lesson that will be drawn by the Republican Party is that those are loser issues for Republicans, and what is really needed is a True Conservative, entirely orthodox in his (inevitably) adherence to Plutocratic principles.

Same as it ever was.

Could you imagine this racist, bigot, misogynist on the bench?

F’ing raygun.

Getting advice on good government from any office holder from Alabama is not unlike getting advice on chastity from Bristol Palin.

So true. Just a few days ago, I see this poor guy that looked as though he hadn’t seen a dentist in years, climb into a broken down p.o.s. 20 year old suv, that had a trump bumper sticker on it?!?!?

It’s like…dumbass!

The most open countries will be the most successful in the coming decades which could be a real problem if the Republican party turns to isolationist policies due to nativism.

He says Cruz has been so diminished by losing the primary that now any GOP Senator can take over Cruz’s job of telling the House what to do.

“I think he needs to recognize, on some of these issues, Trump is where the Republicans are and if you’re going to be a Republican leader you should be supportive of that,”

Jeffy, these folks agree with you 100%.

“Trump is going to appeal better to African Americans, Hispanics, and others than previous Republican candidates because he’s talking about what they want: a fair chance to have a better life economically,”

Anybody remember the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry David loves the chicken at the antisemitic restaurant? Of course, the absurdity of the episode is that he finds out the restaurant owners are antisemitic, yet he’s still willing to try the food even after he knows they hate his guts. Same here, senator. After you reveal your bigotry toward people, those same people are typically not too interested in hearing what else you (or Mr. Trump) have to say…

That’s been the GOP approach for a while, though – “I hate you, but let me tell you about my policy positions.”

That’s actually not true. There is one huge area of disagreement, referred to in the the other article about Ryan this morning…entitlement “reform”. Cutting SSI, Medicare and Medicaid have been Ryan’s pet projects since he first got elected to Congress…and Trump has quite clearly seen that its a losers mission to talk about cutting them. You aren’t going to win in America with the baby boomers retired/retiring by campaigning on cutting SSI and Medicare.

Likewise I fully expect Trump to lose any mention of repealing Obamacare now that he has the nomination…and if he does, it will only be in the context of offering even more coverage.

Trump understand the con game, Ryan doesn’t. Ryan is a true believer in his own twisted philosophy, Trump only believes in Trump. And the con game is never to say “I will take away the things you like…vote for me!”. Quite literally Trump says “I will give you everything”.

And that pretty huge difference is where all of this turns.

Consider the biggest reason that Ryan continues not to endorse Trump: Trump told Ryan that Ryan’s plans to undermine Social Security and Medicare were non-starters.
