GO Mazie

Is she still working on Murkowski? Need Sen. Hirono to beat the crap out of her and get her on board.

Is Pence still the tie breaker? If so then we need all D votes and 2 R votes?

A U.S. Senator calling actual bullshit. I hope it’s a trend.

Now if the other Congressional women would get behind Hirono, it would be a beautiful thing.

Senator Mazie Hirono – I love this lady. I would be proud to call her my Senator … if I lived in Hawaii. Hmmm … anyone want to go there and be my roommate? :sunglasses:

A Democratic US Senator… The GOP can’t abide by this

I’m crazy for Mazie! She’s great at speaking the truth!

I’m not surprised that it is the women among Democratic Senators who are showing the most spine. Go, Sen. Hirono!

Hear in Iowa many of us would love to do a swap, Senator Hirono for Grassley!

I totally understand. Grassley disgusts me. I am so glad Virginia has been trending bluer with each passing election cycle – does give mes reason to be proud of my home state. That said, I still wish I could live in a much more suburban place. Being disabled and poor sucks sometimes.

Grassley is too old to change and too dumb to learn.

Sen. Hirono mentioned on TRMS last night that the Republicans need Kavanaugh on the SC because of upcoming cases coming before the court. Does anyone know which cases, or how to look them up?

That’s the count, Drew.

But I don’t think it will come down that way. If two 'pubbies bolt and vote against Kavanaugh, then several will. If Kavanaugh’s going down, Murkowski, Collins, Flake, and Corker won’t sink with him. Ernst might bolt, too.

On the other hand, if McConnell and Grassley manage to railroad Kavanaugh through, I expect Schumer to tell the Democrats to vote in the way they think will be most helpful to them. That will create a real problem for Heitkamp. I think McCaskill votes no on Kavanaugh either way. I’m not sure what Tester and Manchin will do.

ETA:
See Mazie.
See Mazie go.
Go, Mazie go!

Hear Mazie.
Hear Mazie call bullshit.
Throw the bullshit flag, Mazie, throw it!

She’s announced that she is a firm “No.”

I am pretty sure Senator Hirono embodies everything the Republican side of the Judiciary Committee and the Republican party as a whole hates and fears. They have made it clear that the power will have to be wrested from their cold, dead hands and I am all for it. What McConnell and Grassley are doing to the judiciary as fast as they can (after blocking Obama’s nominations for years) is equivalent to planting land mines that will be there for all of us for the next 40 years. It is all about money and power and protection of white privilege - nothing else.

I fall more in love with her everyday!

Totally agree. It’s either 51+ votes or 45 or less and that’s if McConnell even bothers bringing it to a vote.

These are the faces of the GOP members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

No women.
No one of color.
No one with a modicum of ethics or morals.

And no one who should be re-elected.

I am hoping that Mazie Hirono is one of the two people on the Democratic Ticket in the next Presidential elections.

I would like for Schumer to try to whip the Democratic caucus into a unanimous NO on Kavanaugh to make it clear to everyone that he’s unacceptable to a broad swath of American citizens. There is some indication that Roberts is concerned/dismayed about the political circus surrounding Kavanaugh.

I don’t think very highly of Roberts: I view him as a political hack in the Rehnquist mold. I do believe him when he says he is concerned about dying view of the court as the least political branch of our government and how to fix that. I share that concern – the Court’s only source of power is its perception as a (relatively) neutral arbiter.

Confirming Kavanaugh to the Court after this shit-storm of a rigged hearing along a strict party-line vote would damage the Court. A series of 5-4 decisions on party-of-appointment line votes would reveal the Court as another blatantly political organ.

Once that is clear, maybe we can figure out how to fix it.

Mazie isn’t eligible. She’s a naturalized US citizen who was born in Japan to Japanese parents.
