Discussion: Sen. Chuck Grassley Revives 'Assume Deer Dead' Meme

Discussion for article #237557

That’s a lot of deer. Sounds like someone needs to slow down.

Where’s P.E.T.A when ya need 'em?

GoogleEarth “Whitehall OH” and see how we are really surrounded by Columbus OH. in the city. WE have deer now in the hood!

Chuck Grassley, the scourge of the Ruminantia, the sorrow of the Cervidae.

The buck definitely stops here with Grassley at the wheel.

I remember back when many liberals from his neck of the woods would leap to Chuck Grassley’s defense and swear he was a down the middle straight-shooter just calling them as he saw them whenever you pointed out empirical evidence indicating that he was a hyperpartisan hack and generally sorry excuse for a human being. Then he got a Twitter account.

So Chuck Grassley is Deer Leader?

Assume Deer (Leader) is … ??

Is Iowa, like Connecticut, just overrun with deer or is Grassley blaming drunken fender-benders on hitting deer?

Or, since there are no witnesses or police reports to corroborate these stories, a lot of drunk driving.

I’ve come inches from hitting a deer on Long Island. I know plenty of people who have actually hit them, including on the interstate. A stepbrother hit one on his motorcycle in Wisconsin. He and his wife were extensively injured. And a friend’s niece died hitting a deer. You don’t need excessive speed of alcohol to have these problems. There are way too many deer.

Apparently, they need more elk in Iowa. That’ll slow Grassley down.

How I’ve driven all across Iowa without hitting a deer is a mystery.

It’s pretty terrifying to see a deer or two ahead with no time to stop. They can go through the windshield.
My parents had to choose which hog to hit when they rounded a curve on a country road at night and two pigs were in the road.

Not this liberal.

It’s important to realize that rural areas have problems with deer. We live in SD. Within 200 yds of my house on the edge of town, there is extensive woods. There are huge #s of deer. People hit them frequently, and it is not funny when you hit a deer. The deer is often killed, but your car can be damaged, and the deer can be up in the air, go through the windshield, and injure the driver.

Ya think? I’ve been driving in MN for 35 years, and have never hit one. And I live in the country, and commute.

I wonder if he’s lying or exaggerating for some political end.

During deer season the deer and elk head for safe ground. I lived in a little safe zone for 13 years and I always knew when hunting season had begun because all of a sudden my little local herd tripled. I don’t hunt so that was my clue.

Plus, most hunters scout out areas ahead of time for their hunts and then camp there during season. Talk to most of them and they’ll tell you that the animals just seem to disappear during season. Point is, more hunting just pushes the animals towards humanity which results in more auto accidents. So more hunting isn’t the answer. Mankind not moving into natural deer and elk wintering grounds and not developing in their space is the answer but that solution takes a back seat to quick profit developers and short sighted planners.

The deer love New Jersey suburbia. I’ve hit three of them.

We even have black bears.
