No he wasn’t. He was asked if he would recuse himself fro the investigation if it came to light that the campaign had been in contact with the Russians.
Here’s how you answer if you want to hide your meetings and aren’t planning on trying to hang on to not recusing yourself so you can taint the investigation in Trump’s favor:
“Yes. I would recuse myself. I was a campaign surrogate and so it would create the impression of bias if I presided over the investigation, which would damage the integrity of our justice system.”
INSTEAD, he tried to not answer the question, which shows he was being intentionally misleading in his answer from the get go. Then, he punctuated it with a lie about the very most important part of the recusal equation.
He should be charged with perjury.
The man lied to a Senate committee, Senator. He did not say that he had not spoken to any Russian about the campaign. He said he had not spoke to any Russian during the campaign. Not the same thing, as you ought to know.
Just think of friends or family members you’ve known who were caught up in the Justice system.
Were they given the benefit of doubt, wide latitude, or did A heartlessly plus B cruelly equal C with no hand-holding or discussion?
Funny, when Bill Clinton met with Loretta Lynn, and they were old friends, and both said they didn’t talk about Hillary’s probe, the Pugs didn’t believe them one bit. Why should we believe that Sessions and the Russian Ambassador – who are clearly not old friends – didn’t talk politics and the election? Clinton and Lynn never denied they met, so Sessions caginess on this topic before and equivocations and explanations now have ZERO credibility by their own standards.
Josh is right that these a big black hole at the center of this scandal. While Josh is being coy, I’m not nearly as restricted in sharing my conclusions based on the evidence available and logical inferences: Trump laundered money for the Russians. His business fits the profile. There are statements on the record from both Trump and his son that they get a lot of money from Russia. Trump has associates all over the place with financial ties and relationships with Russians tied to Putin. Trump won’t say a bad thing about Putin, a notorious thug for decades.
You don’t need to verify every detail to be able to infer the bigger picture. This was a coup by ballot box, with the Pugs looking the other way so that they can get what they want. This country is in a world of shit right now.
