Discussion: Seeing Green: John Boehner Stars In Pot Ad That Promises Marijuana Millions

John Boehner has definitely mellowed out…

Maybe it helped him quit drinking?

While I don’t think marijuana possession and use should be illegal, I’m not ready to see it portrayed as an unadulterated positive, if that’s, in fact, what he’s doing. More research needs to be done regarding chronic use in my opinion.

This is so weird.

But maybe he at least gave up drinking. And, impairing his memory could be therapeutic for him if it helps him forget his shameful political career.

Retirement is great, isn’t it?

At least he didn’t sexually abuse young men and get caught after he left office. He hasn’t even been indicted for criminal wrongdoing. Got that going for him.

Way to go, John! Enjoy!

And here I thought he was “crying” all the time …

I don’t think Boehner is quite as evil as Gingrich; but is every bit as sleazy.

Was that snark, or are you serious?

I completely agree with this. I’m always in favor of getting to the facts.

However, just to be clear, it has been the anti-MJ crowd and the drug warriors who have fought tooth and nail against any research. My experience is the pro-legalization side have always been in favor of uncovering the truth.

Having said that, I don’t know that research is going to find out anything we don’t already know. It has been around in various cultures for thousands of years, and widely used in the United States and Europe since the 1960’s by millions of people.

But yes, unbiased, honest research is good.

No surprise here. Boehner has always believed in “green”.

Cold hard cash of course.

They don’t even hide their hypocrisy anymore. Once the tide turns and there is money to be made they are all in. Meanwhile there are plenty of people in jail or with a criminal record for possession of pot.

If he truly believes in the cause of legalization, he’ll put an equal amount of effort into calling for overturning convictions of hundreds of thousands of people whose lives were set back by “tough on crime” policies. He could start by opposing William Barr’s nomination for AG.

ETA: I’m not holding my breath except oh wait, yes I am cough cough cough

There is always a need for more chronic studies of the effects of everything that humans ingest - as conditions change, research tools improve, we have more advanced knowledge to ask better questions, etc. So, yeah, of course.

But cannabis has been extensively researched by the U.S., and the rest of the world, for 50 years now, and the number of research articles on the subject published has grown to something like 100,000. And the focus on research, in the U.S. anyway, has been mostly on uncovering harmful effects and we have had millions of U.S. citizens consuming it for those 50 years.

The idea that this subject is “little researched” is a perennial hobby horse of the drug enforcement lobby who have been frustrated by the failure to find serious problems. So decade after decade they insist that hardly any research has yet been done, despite over $10 billion (current dollars) largely spent in trying to ferret out harm.
