There is absolutely nothing bad in what Omar said.
Fox News would be outraged if someone cut the crust from the bread of a ham sandwich. Nothing they say should be taken seriously.

None of the âpeople who did somethingâ happened to be Saudiâs did they? Trump cozies up to Saudis like bedbugs to dozing bulls.
Replace âArchitecture and artâ with âHouses of worshipâ or âHoly placesâ and see how much more impactful and impervious to criticism her tweet would have been.
I donât disagree with you at all, but I think she is more of a totem around which their tribe dances. I donât think itâs a fear thing as much as it is a hate ritual that defines who they are as a (sick) people.
Obviously, in context, the people who did something are semi literate, white supremacists fucks like who The Rump thinks are many fine people on both sides.
To extend you metaphor a bit: Omar is the Totem around which their tribe dances, but itâs the High Priests of Hatred in the Reich-Wing Media that âcall the tuneâ and their ignorant and obedient worshipers unquestionly obey.
I have an in-law that told me she (Ilhan Omar) âshould not be allowed to be a member of congress. Itâs just not right.â
I told her that there were people that said the same thing about females being in congress, many years ago.
There were also people that did not want females to be allowed to vote. There were people that were terribly afraid of having JFK as president because he was a Catholic⌠and Barrack Obama because he is black.
Seems the fear of women, non-Christian religion and non-white race dominate the (dis)qualifications of elected officials.
âââŚYouâve got to be taught
To hate and fear, youâve got to be taught from year to year
Itâs got to be drummed in your dear little ear
Youâve got to be carefully taught.
Youâve got to be taught
To be afraid of people
Whose eyes are oddly made
And people whose skin is a different shade
Youâve got to be carefully taughtâŚ""
To those of us who are not Catholics, that about covers it. And history, I suppose, but omitting that seems like a venial sin.
Although I appear to be a minority of one on this board in thinking that Omar was a bloody fool in for the umpteenth time in handling delicate issues with a lack of understanding and care, here is what Omar should have said:
Had she done so, it would have addressed the building consensus in the democratic party that she is a bull in a china shop that is just helping out Donald Trump, and showed that she has what it takes to represent her constituents in a way that does not always make her the issue.
I thought it seemed more innocuous without the context, merely another careless and damaging remark: plainly dismissive of 9/11, but not necessarily malicious. In context, frankly, it seems worse. Her purpose is to be in peopleâs faces, including a lot of people predisposed to give her the benefit of the doubt. I have learned never to ask people to wait to push an issue of justice. But she does it in a careless way that plays into the hands of the right and makes it hard for Democrats to defend her (again). She is talking only to muslims here, and plainly attempts to nurture a sense of injustice and grievance within that subculture by minimizing the crimes of some of its members against the larger culture. I think she is dangerous. She is a force of division. If she were MLK the right would still hate her and smear her, butâŚsheâs not MLK. The enemy of your enemy is not necessarily your ally.
Unfortunately we are also seeing that too many white/christian Dems also take everything she says out of context to furrow their brow and explain how muslims/brown people need to do and speak what the white christians tell them too or else they are âbringing this hatred on themselvesâ.
And when I look at the Raheem Kassan tweet I say âwho the fuck is this asshole, what a dickâ Sort of a difference. So Yes Omar is a target, sort of makes my point that she ought to be careful around landminesâŚ
Surely you are snarking here. What else is someone supposed to say?
I doubt anyone commented the day MLK was shot what a damn shame it was a good suit got ruined.
seriously?
I believe two things here.
First, everyone accusing fox news and trump of hypocrisy, racism and xenophobia regarding this matter is correct.
Second, what would have happened if Trump had said lynching meant âsome people who did somethingâ? I donât think weâd give him much of a pass.
Her words were at best inartful, and at worst wildly dismissive of one of our countryâs greatest tragedies. I appreciate her larger point about the racism the Muslim-American community faces, but she should have included a clear statement within the speech that the 9/11 attackers were more than âsome people who did somethingâ. Failing that, she should have made a statement afterwards clarifying her views.
While I think there is nothing wrong in her âNotre Dameâ tweet, seems just normal to me, anything she does at this point is going to be viewed by a lot of folks through the lens of âbought with Benjaminsâ; âdual loyaltyâ, and âsome people did somethingâ
While Progressives may be upset that Pelosi, et al., are not defending what she said, making Omar the face of the democratic party is to re-elect Donald Trump. He knows this, it is why he is trying to turn her into the face of the âsocialistâ democratic party.
A church burned, yet she issues a statement the most lamentable aspect of the fire is the loss of architecture and art
I love to break this to you but for all us NON-CHRISTIANS thatâs exactly what was lost.
So yea, stop trying to tell us non-christians how we must feel about stuff, thatâs what the GOP is for.
But the cathedral is about art and architecture. What else can anyone say? So glad Jesus didnât burn up? I think youâre way off.
