I’ve witnessed that over and over through the years. It often does equate to the worst of self absorbed and to the dismissive superiority to the lesser educated. Compassion, charity, and humility are often jettisoned along the way to that higher educations and lifestyle.
That garbage being in Washington irks me too and I live a hundred miles away.
The house in the Kalorama neighborhood was bought in December by a company with ties to a Chilean billionaire.
So why would a Chilean billionaire go all the way to Washington DC to invest in rental property?
I was told a horse farm near me is owned by a millionaire from somewhere in South America as a place to bug out to if the government at home gets shaky or oppressive. I guess we’re getting to understand how that might feel.
That would not surprise me at all.

The entire family has spent years trying to buy acceptance. They now hold the biggest prize of all and find out that even that is not enough. Still viewed as bridge-and-tunnel people from Queens.
I must admit, as much as I don’t like this family, I am not sure this is a story. I read the entire article over at WaPo, this neighbor just had enough $ and clout herself to make a difference with a few emails.

I’m tired of the fake lifestyle and gold-plated lifestyle stories about this family. This story actually made them seem more relatable - the annoying neighbours we all have.
True. Marjorie Merriweather Post was able to build and maintain Mar-A-Lago as a private residence used for 3 months a year without turning it into a hotel. Amazing what having ready cash can accomplish.
