How come the Secret Service didn’t just shoot the guy like normal police do?
Poor guy got scammed on Airbnb.
My first thought was John McCain. No one thinks they belong there more than him.
Why wasn’t he shot dead by snipers on the roof? He could have had a bomb strapped to himself and been a suicide bomber. Totally NOT acceptable.
If only a hot prostitute had scaled the fence they would have been promptly nabbed…
Stand by for “FenceGate”.
Might be time to modify the fence, make it less climber friendly.
He must have been white.
Guess who else invaded the “White House” says a bunch of angry old white dudes.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the Dominoes pizza guy was running a hair late and didn’t want to give away 500 pizzas for free.
I 'm guessing razor wire trim would be a bit too much?
what if he was wearing a bomb?
Personsally, I think the Secret Service responded reasonably here. The First Family weren’t present so there was no threat to the President or his family and someone made a decision that lethal force was not called for. I think we’ve had too many examples of law enforcement gunning down unarmed citizens on the “shoot first, ask questions later” doctrine, which is then interpreted as “just shoot, no questions will be asked”. All in all, though, Mr. Gonzalez is a very lucky man.
Probably wouldn’t be good optics to have tissue and blood soaked clothing hanging from the fence.
It’s interesting to see all of the comments here asking why the intruder wasn’t shot. It’s refreshing to me to see someone thinking before shooting which makes a hell of a lot more sense than what’s happening everywhere else. The Secret Service may have been slow to respond on this one, but they brought it to a (non-lethal) conclusion perfectly.
Chaffetz sounded almost disappointed…
“…the intruder sprinting across the lawn as Secret Service agents shouted at nearby pedestrians to clear the area.”
There were probably too many innocent bystanders who could have been caught in the crossfire. A fast sprinter in dark clothing at night is a very hard target.
They have more sense than street cops usually do.
So, in other words, they’re not testosterone-poisoned under-trained imbeciles.
I’m no expert on White House security or anything but maybe, for now on, it would be a good idea to lock the front door.
