I have a recollection of this happening during Vietnam and at other times. Buddihist Monk maybe or a veteran protesting? In any case this is horrible for all who witnessed doused the flames. I hope the man is at peace.

Guess Stephen Miller stepped out for a smoke...Norman Morrison…a Quaker anti-war demonstrator…took his own life (in D.C.) in this fashion to protest our efforts in Vietnam. And of course, the Buddhists like Quang Duc did this to protest the Diem regime in Saigon.
Wonder if this guy is a modern day would-be Norman Morrison.

Trump, and his Republifascist allies, are driving the rest of us insane and to the brink of violence.
This is the second time within the past few weeks this has happened. The first one didn’t result in serious injury. But the fact that multiple attempts at self-immolation has happened in front of the White House this year, with almost zero media coverage, tells you just how broken both the Trump administration and the media are.

I hope he’s treated kindly. We can speculate on motivation (and given history we’re likely right to think it’s in protest of this administration) but this particular act … it doesn’t even matter what their motivations were imho. It’s sad and they should be treated gently and wished well.
Agreed… but it would be a lot easier if the Democratic leaders in the house would show some spine and start an impeachment inquiry
