Discussion: SCOTUS Lets North Dakota Enforce Full Voter ID Law For Upcoming Midterms

We need state laws that make it a felony with a minimum sentence of 30 years for trying to restrict voting rights. If these evil traitors take our rights away like this we don’t have a country. And if we don’t have a country then there is no reason to obey these right wing scumbags period.

“Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was confirmed to the Supreme Court this weekend, did not participate in the court’s decision.”

…because he had “fallen asleep” near a large keg of beer in the lobby. (He likes beer.)

Glad Senator Heitkamp voted her conscience. This doesn’t bode well for her, but she can hold her head up high for standing up for the right thing.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh

The juxtaposition of those words is almost as unbearable as the words that describe the current occupant of the White House.

Native Americans voted more for Trump than for Romney in 2012. They might want to do some soul searching as Trump did quite well with their vote.

I wonder how it would have come out if Kavanaugh had voted. :rage: It’s been on since forever—a full-scale war against voting rights in this god-damned country. There was a brief lull when the courts did their plain duty, and now it’s back on.

Does anyone have any info on GOTV efforts in ND? Can’t there be some kind of work-around on this? As I read this, the ID law requires a physical address, not a PO box, which is where many tribes receive mail… Is there some organization, or the Tribes themselves, getting native Americans to register using any damn address? Beyond that, is there a group making sure that the tribes there are fired up and furious and determined to vote? Or are we assuming ND is now a lost cause?

“the risk of disfranchisement is large.”

Disenfranchisement is not so much a risk as it is an objective, of course.

Voting rights were not Constitutionally guaranteed by design of the racist and sexist “Founding Fathers.” The original Constitution only allowed about 10% of the citizens to vote.

The SCOTUS already struck down the Voting Rights Act, and so this is just another step in the same direction.

Strict constructionists, you know!

No democracy, no justice.

Okay, Heidi, mobilize your base and help these people get the required I.D. If you don’t, you might lose.

Proof please.

Was it a 4-4 split? In which case the appeals court ruling would stand, right?

What a shock!

It seems to have been an unsigned order, with 3 dissents. So Breyer must have voted not to review, because four justices grants cert,

It could be a federal statute. But it’s not going to happen any time soon.

Aaargh why would he do that…

A note was found safety pinned to his brand new shirt that said 'please excuse my little Brett from court today as he’s been having trouble controlling his emotions. Thank you so much.
