Such an outrage, really. America’s fascist party at work.
Republicans explaining by their actions that they really have no use for democracy other than to gain power and then by undemocratic means retain that power.
Shame
At one time they were capable of it. Those days are long gone
“They’re watching their power slip away. There’s no basement.”
beware the cornered, wounded beast…
Wisconsin Republicans prove daily in their state that THEIR PARTY is the enemy of The People.
Before they go, they’ll burn down everything dry enough to put a torch to.
We need strict anti-gerrymandering federal laws that prevent these local bullies from overtaking democracy with their lopsided power grabs. Make it a felony to conspire to suppress or engineer the vote in any way, and create a reapportionment authority that is solely and exclusively based on that same fundamental legal constraint.
Make it ILLEGAL AS HELL for another Kemp or Kobach to rise to power in the first place. Good grief, we have laws meant to manage every conceivable aspect of our lives, we can’t guarantee fair democracy?
What good is the rule of law if the lawmakers are corrupt in the first place?
What a grossly misleading headline. It should read:
Evers Lies down in front of GOP Steamroller
Right? Headline and article are completely opposite. Headline writer did not read past the first paragraph, if even that far.
… and asserted that Republicans “are not going to roll over and play dead like they assume we probably should.”
No one assumes you will roll over and play dead.
It would be nice, however, if you stood up and played fair and reasonable. And stopped being such pricks.
well, yes, eventually, we DO expect that will contribute to the demise of these Ironhand Republicans. They outnumber us in the obituaries 3-1.
Only part snark here, because the elder death rate in some of the rust-belt/farm states will directly influence the future elections of those states. Those very people posing these pernicious obstacles tend to be on the wrong side of that equation.
You’ve nailed it clean through. Here’s how Kirkland actually summarized the situation:
Evers has pushed back some, with his team accusing Republicans of “desperate” moves to hold on to power. But this is a fight he’s uninterested in having. Publicly calling for unity, he has avoided taking personal potshots at GOP leaders and moved ahead with picking his transition team.
I hope she’s miffed and can do something about the way her report was presented. Sleepers at the wheel of TPM, awake!
In perhaps the most audacious proposal, they’re considering moving up the date of the April 2020 presidential primary. Democrats are expected to show up en masse to determine who will face off against Donald Trump, and that high turnout could hurt Republicans’ chances in a Supreme Court race also scheduled for that day.
This won’t work. Dems will turn out in any event. Nor is it particularly audacious. Andrew Cuomo and the GOP did this sort of thing for years in NY to preserve their coalition. We have repeated Tuesday elections for a variety of offices, all scattered to discourage turnout and preserve incumbents.
There must be a hidden plank the Republican platform, pledging the party to be loathsome whenever possible.
i read the whole article waiting for the fighting off to start
where is the fighting off i was promised
The GOP cheats. All the time. Whenever necessary. Win at all costs. Enemies of the people.
Same here.
All I read was that Evers was making some nice talk about unity, not that he was actually stopping Republicans from their power grab.
You would think that Walker would not be willing to play ball on much of this out of a duty to protect the office of Governor, but even as I’m typing this I realize how naive this sounds.
And THIS is why I hate these disgusting traitors. They are unfit to call themselves Americans. And I mean all of those criminals.
Scotty never really cared about the people of Wisconsin, or those in Milwaukee County before that. He caught the ‘power for its own sake’ bug early and was willing to cheat to get it.
The slime of republican corruption rolls on in Wisconsin.
I guess we’ll see whether Wisconsin voters have any sense.
After 8 years of comically bad decisions at the polls, I doubt it.
Cuoto rocks. First met him in the original recalls. Wisconsin Progress and other progressive organizations, including One Wisconsin Now and Emerge Wisconsin, have been fighting since Day One, working with the goals of the DPW (Democratic Party of Wisconsin), getting sh*t done.
