Discussion for article #227810
A few weeks ago I spoke to a Scotish couple and inquired about their preference in the upcoming vote. He was in favor and she against. I could see it was a well discussed topic between them. He proclaimed proudly that he was a Scot and she wondered if the UK being so small already needed to get smaller. As an outsider I have no right to an opinion and certainly do know the issues well enough to favor one side or the other. However, a close vote on such a major decision would indicate that the status quo is acceptable to many Scots and such a tremendous change is would be very unpopular. Either way lets hope for a clear mandate.
60-40 âNoâ, âShy Scotsmanâ factor cited (Fear-Uncertainty-Doubt).
Oh jeebus, jeebus, jeebusâŚthe YES/NO vote is becoming like a Palin presidency____ you know it could be a terrible, a monumental FUBAR socio-political apocalypse, but there is a lilâ mischievous part of you that wants to see it in all itâs brilliant, frightening, gory detail.
Forgive! (ăŁ-âçâ)㣠,︾âż
(On a more serious note, my sister just got back from attending a medical seminar Across the Pond and this is 24/7 on the TV news___you know, exactly like how we cover the Kardashians.)
Wait! If Scotland leaves the Union, the flag wonât be as cool. Vote âNOâ!
âŚand all my Who tee shirts will become fuckinâ meaningless!!!
jkâŚexcept for the tee shirt thingyâ!
In the event of a YES victory, I propose we allow England to have Texas as a consolation prize and parting gift. (And the Texans will be faced with science books that include evolution! Win/Win!)
Have you been listening to the banks with that âsocial apocalypseâ stuff?
If Scotland votes for independence, then Obama deserves to be impeached for it.
Actually, my greatest concern is the status of Dr. WhoâŚyet, I believe heâs from Gallifrey, so heâll prollyâ be fine.
Wonder where Groundskeeper Willie comes down on this issue? Heâs maybe the most Fair & Balanced commentator on fairly unbalanced FUX News. WellâŚlooks like he says AYE OR DIEâŚ
~snort!~
Why, if Scotland gains their independence, does it mean that they cut ties with England? They live on the same rock for one thing and share fog. The tie that they cut will be the being ruled part. If England truly cares about them as a nation rather than as subjects, they should be all for an independent Scotland that they can partner with and have as an ally. The no side never mentions this.
If England were being righteous, they would cut ties with the pretentiousness of the âroyalâ family. Itâs not like the UK would fall apart without the Queenâs ultra-minimal involvement.
Long live the Queen but a quick death to the monarchy.
Whichever side wins, the fact that 97% of eligible voters are registered and the vast majority of those are expected to turn out, puts many countries, including the US, to shame.
Actually, they are not exactly on the âsame rock.â Scotland and the rest of the U.K. used to be separated by the Iapetus Ocean prior to the formation of Pangea.
Scotland - âPangea, I am in you!â
Worry not, the good Doctorâs adventures are filmed almost entirely in Wales, so there will be no impact.
ââWhy not roll the dice for once?ââ
The Yes campaign in a nutshell.
Haggis being the traditional Scottish dish, already separates Scotland from any other country on the planet, isnât that independence enough.
and then thereâs curling⌠and GOLF!!!
My Highlander ancestors had too much time on their handsâŚ
âWe are all Pangeans!â
I have to say I donât get this type of language, it makes it sound like the Scots have no say in the UK parliament, when, last I checked, they have elected representation in parliament. I mean if the Scots decide they no longer want to be part of the United Kingdom thatâs their choice, but it is not like they are currently an occupied nation being ruled over by a foreign power the governance of which they have no say in. Further, if they choose to no longer be part of the United Kingdom it seems quite reasonable that they would not be treated the same as if they choose to remain, after all there must be some benefit to membership.
